Jakarta – Angkasa Pura Airports will organize a socialization event of Kulon Progo airport development. Angkasa Pura Airports will invite an Indian airport operator, GVK, to join the operation of the new airport. President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports, Tommy Soetomo explained that this project is now entering a socialization stage. After the socialization stage, there will be a land acquisition process.  

Angkasa Pura Airports will join force with local government of Yogyakarta and the university society to support the socialization of the upcoming development plan of the airport that will replace Adisutjipto Airport. “The socialization stage will be done by a joint force of Angkasa Pura Airports, local government, provincial government and University of Gajah mada,” he explained.

The new Kulon Progo airport is targeted to be operated in 2016. Angkasa Pura Airports and GVK, an Indian airport operator company, will operate the new Yogyakarta airport. GVK is a proven operator of Mumbai and Bangalore airports.

“We have worked together with GVK India since 2011,” he explained. Tommy also mentioned that Kulon Progo airport is projected to absorb IDR 6 trillion of investment. This new airport will also support Yogyakarta as a local-and-global tourist destination.

This modern aerotropolis airport will be equipped with train. “We plan to build an airport city. The airport will also be functioned as a center of intermodal transportation. There will be train service. That’s what we are planning,” he said. [Diani Sekaring Sejati/Source: Detik Finance]
