Jakarta – The construction project of Yogyakarta’s new Airport in Kulon Progo will be developed using aerotropolis concept. This airport will be completed with a central business district and a railroad. Like other grand airport such as Kualanamu Deli Serdang in North Sumatera, and the upcoming airport of Kertajati in Majalengka, West Java, this airport will be integrated with a train railroad.

“A railroad will be constructed too,” Deputy Minister of Transportation Bambang Susantono told detikFinance on Thursday (3/7/2014). Bambang explained that the airport railroad will be integrated with the current railroad, starting from the central station in Yogyakarta heading the south route. This route is going to be turned joining the railroad to Kulon Progo Airport.

“There will be a sliding system to move the main track to the airport track. The sliding track is not long, it will only take 1-2 km,” he said. This supporting infrastructure is planned to be ready by the time the airport is ready to operate. “If the land is ready this year, the airport will be ready in 2018, including the train,” he added.
