SEMARANG - The marshland property of the Diponegoro IV Military Region is considered to be a suitable site for the apron or aircraft parking ground of Ahmad Yani International Airport. The apron will be built on a land -covering an area of 61,344 meters squares - by the contractor in the first stage of the construction plan.

As many as 10 aircrafts can be parked on the apron which is targeted to be completed in two years. Geologist expert from Diponegoro University, Professor Sri Prabandiyani said to personally believe that the construction of the new Ahmad Yani Airport on marshland is a safe structure. "The filling of land on the site should be closely monitored and meet the standard procedure," he said.

He cited that several airports built in Singapore and Japan on marshlands did not encounter any problems. He added that the development of the airport would have a positive impact for the city of Semarang in terms of both transportation and industry. A member of the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI), Bambang Riyanto, underlined that the airport development should focus on public service facilities, such as passenger terminals, roads and parking areas.

According to him, the improvement of this service is very important given the current increasingly crowded condition of the airport. "The traffic flow around the airport is now crowded and congested, necessitating the expansion of public service facilities such as access points, parking and passenger terminal," said the lecturer of the Faculty of Engineering, Diponegoro University.

Environmentally Friendly
The General Affairs and Communication Section Head of Ahmad Yani Airport Branch of Angkasa Pura Airports, Anom Fitranggono said the development is geared towards an environmentally friendly airport. The apron is built on the solidified marshland on which most of the passenger terminal will be constructed over the marsh land integrated with the swamp water.

In the site model, the departure terminal and the connecting corridors are integrated. Passengers in the mock-up are illustrated relaxing near the water pool "The water pool in the terminal not only serves as a landscape view but also functions as a water catchment. It is really indeed an Eco Airport concept," he added.

The airport development is now fully under the operator’s hands, so there should not be any constraint in terms of external policy. "The development policy is now clear. Hopefully it can be completed on schedule," he added. [Diani Sekaring Sejati/DetikFinance]
