Jakarta - Angkasa Pura Airports is currently building an airport terminal with an environmentally sustainable (eco friendly) concept in Semarang Central, Java.
This Indonesian state-owned company will completely renovate  the passenger terminal at Ahmad Yani Semarang International Airport. The new airport will be able to accommodate 6 to 7million domestic and international passengers annually.

The design that was quoted by Detik Finance, shows the airport terminal building is built above the water surface or above mangroves. The terminal includes various forms of giant water pools and water settings around in the different corners of the airport. "There is the water element in the design," said the Corporate Secretary of Angkasa Pura Airports, Farid Indra Nugraha, Wednesday (06/18/2014).

The purpose of Angkasa Pura Airports in designing a floating airport is to preserve the ecosystem of the surrounding area of the airport. The concept of the airport adopted the similar system that was applied in  constructing the toll road over the Bali seas. The Eco friendly concept allows fish species to thrive under the airport because the terminal is built on top of pillars. "This is a realization of Angkasa Pura’s vision to  to be recognized as an environmentally friendly terminal certified by the Indonesia Green Building Council," he explained.

In the new locale, Angkasa Pura Airports is constructing a 58,653 m² terminal with 2 floors, compared to the area of the former terminal which was only 6,700 m². The majority of the terminal building is designed to be built over the water. To build the construction over the water, Angkasa Pura Airports allocated an investment valuing Rp 1.5 trillion.
