Angkasa Pura Airports Trains Residents Around YIA

KULON PROGO - Angkasa Pura Airports conducts training for residents living around Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo. The training, which was given specifically to elderly, was carried out for four days from August 28 to August 31, 2019 includes training in eel and mushroom farming. That is a manifestation of the company's commitment to empowering residents in the areas surrounding airport operations, specifically the Yogyakarta International Airport.

The training was given to 100 residents in five villages around YIA, namely Palihan Village, Jangkaran Village, Glagah Village, Sindutan Village, and Kebonrejo Village. Training on eel farming is aimed for residents in four villages namely Palihan, Jangkaran, Glagah, and Kebonrejo while training on mushroom farming is given to Sindutan residents.

"Angkasa Pura Airports is always committed to grow and develop with the community around the managed airports. One of them is by initiating a community empowerment program around the airport and this time, it is for elderly people around Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo,said  Angkasa Pura Airports marketing and service director Devy Suradji.

Through this training, Devy added, it is hoped that the participants can have the knowledge and skills needed as a means of alternative livelihoods. In addition, the community also need to be taught about marketing in order to maximize the sales of the products. In the future, Yogyakarta International Airport will have the largest MSME area in Indonesia where it will sell Yogyakarta SMEs products.

The training was held in two places. The training of mushroom farming, which was participated by 20 people, was held at the Angkasa Pura Airports Community Empowerment Center on August 28 to August 31, 2019. Meanwhile, the training of eel farming, participated by 80 residents, was held at the Palihan Village Hall for 2 days starting on August 28 to August 29, 2019.

Acting Yogyakarta International Airport General Manager Agus Pandu Purnama said the training for the elderly group aimed to make them have daily routine that provided economic benefits and management practices which are considered not too difficult to handle.

The type of training, Agus Pandu added, was set after assessing the interests and potentials of each village, followed by dissemination of information related to the training by involving village officials and residents registered as participants.

The training involved people who have experiences in their fields, namely PT Dapetin Global Mandiri, which is engaged in eel farming and assisting eel farmers. Meanwhile, the  training on mushroom farming involved Sedyo Lestari Farmer Group from Bantul, Yogyakarta.
