SURABAYA – In accordance with the plan to develop Juanda International Airport in Surabaya until 2021, Angkasa Pura Airports improve the communication channel and intensity as well as opportunities for cooperation with prospective tenant partners at the airport during the Tenant Gathering Juanda International Airport event at JW Marriot Hotel in Surabaya on Wednesday (10/24).

“Serving 20 million passengers every year, Juanda International Airport has potential market for retail business owners. Therefore, we invite business people and brand holders to be tenants at the Juanda International Airport to provide service to passengers and grow with Angkasa Pura I,” said Angkasa Pura Airports marketing and service director Devy Suradji.

Apart from providing airport services that prioritize safety, security, service and compliance (3S 1 C), Angkasa Pura Airports is also concerned about the comfort of the aircraft passengers. Convenience at the airport is a major factor to encourage passengers and prospective passengers to stay in airport terminals and spend their money there. Hence, Angkasa Pura Airports continues to improve the comfort of the Juanda International Airport.

One of the efforts made to improve the comfort is by providing independent check-in facilities through Kiosk. The facilities are available in Terminal 1A and Terminal 1B of 4 and 7 units, respectively. The aim is to make it easier for passengers travelling without checked baggage or only carrying bags taken to the aircraft cabin.

The effort is also carried out to maintain on-time performance of Juanda International Airport which is recognized internationally as “The Most On-Time Airport in Southeast Asia” in August 2018 based on the monthly report of the UK-based air travel intelligence company OAG. In the report, the on-time performance (OTP) reached 93.7 percent, making the airport obtain first rank followed by Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok of 83.9 percent and Changi International Airport in Singapore of 82.8 percent.

In 2017, Juanda International Airport also won the most-on time airport in the world in the large airport category (airports with 10 to 20 million passengers per year) with an average OTP rate of 90.30 percent. It competed with Honolulu International Airport in the USA with OTP rate of 87.53 percent, Salt Lake City International Airport in the USA of 87.2 percent, Brasilia International Airport in Brazil of 87.07 percent and Brisbane International Airport in Australia of 86.71 percent. The level of the OTP shows that the departure is relatively fast and the queue in the check-in counter can be minimized. Those are some of the convenience indicators of an airport.

The attempt to improve service at Juanda International Airport is also appreciated by Airports International Council (ACI) by granting the prestigious 2017 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) awards to the airport with the title “The 3rd World Best Airport by Size 15 to 25 million”. The ASQ awards are the highest annual award for airports with the best service in the world conducted by ACI.

“The various awards show that Angkasa Pura Airports is serious in providing comfort and memorable experience to the passengers so they don’t think twice to spend more money to shop in the airport,” Devy said.

To increase passenger comfort in Juanda International Airport terminal, especially in Terminal 1, the management will change the layout of the tenants and expand the terminal to the east of 45,000 square meters in the early 2019. The expansion will upgrade the capacity of Terminal 1 to 17 million people per year from only 10 million people. The number of departure gates will also be added to 16 from 12 gates.

There will be a special Umrah terminal later on so that the arrivals and departures of the pilgrims are separated from the regular flights. The Umrah terminal is going to be part of Terminal 1 located on the east side. Angkasa Pura Airports will also build a roof parking.

Tenants at Angkasa Pura Airports are one of the strategic partners that can improve the airport's business performance. These tenants also play a role in providing different experiences and providing comfort [for passengers] at the airport. Therefore, this communication forum is very important and helps to hold an open discussion with tenants," Devy said.

With the rising opportunity for business cooperation at the airport, Angkasa Pura Airports invites business owners and brands to participate in the selection process which will open from November 2018 to January 2019 where detailed information on the process can be found on the site http://juanda-airport.com/ and also mass media.
