Adi Soemarmo International Airport Holds Emergency Response Training

BOYOLALI – Airbus A330-200 belongs to Kenari air with registration number PK-KAD and flight number AD-099 from Jeddah crashed out the runaway and caught fire when landing at Adi Soemarmo International Airport in Boyolali on Wednesday night (24/10/2018). The aircraft carrying 210 passengers and 10 crew crashed into the perimeter fence of the airport.

As the result, eight people died, 12 were seriously injured, 17 were moderately injured and the other 27 were mildly injured. All of the victims were handled according to the procedures of handling victims during an emergency.

The incident was part of the scenario of the Angkasa Pura Airports 99th Emergency Response (PKD) training held at Adi Soemarmo International Airport. This training involves at least 550 personnel consisting of the Airport Emergency Committee and Airport Security Committee from Angkasa Pura Airports, Indonesian Air Force, AirNav Indonesia’s Surakarta District Office, Boyolali Police, Ngemplak Police, Ngemplak Subdistrict Military Command II, Search and Rescue Agency, Surakarta Custom’s Supervision and Service of Customs and Excise Department, Surakarta Class I Immigration, Surakarta Class I Agricultural Quarantine Center, Class II Port Health Office (KKP) of Adi Soemarmo Working Area, Surakarta Fire and Rescue Agency and some hospitals and community health centers around Adi Soemarmo International Airport.

The series of the training are divided into three: handling mass demonstrations, bomb threats and aviation security exercise then earthquake and fire building exercise, followed by aircraft accident exercise.

"This training is an attempt to test the documents of Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) and Airport Security Program (ASP) as well as the functions of command, communication and coordination. Each personnel at Adi Soemarmo International Airport is expected to be able to benefit from this test to train and strengthen their capabilities in accordance with their respective fields of duty in overcoming emergencies," said Adi Soemarmo International Airport general manager Abdullah Usman.

"The safety aspect has always been a top priority in every flight. To ensure flight safety, security and comfort in air transportation and to anticipate the possibility of the worst flight accidents, integrated training requires all relevant agencies to test each standard system and procedure. In addition, the PKD simulation is conducted at night this time, considering that emergency conditions can occur at any time,” said Angkasa Pura Airports operation director Wendo Asrul Rose.

Every two years, all airports managed by Angkasa Pura I conducts PKD training. The emergency response simulation at Adi Soemarmo International Airport is the 5th PKD training held by Angkasa Pura I in 2018. Previously, PKD trainings have been held at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport in Balikpapan, Sam Ratulangi International Airport in Manado, and Jenderal Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang. The next PKD training will be held at El Tari International Airport in Kupang in November 2018 and at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali in December 2018.
