Angkasa Pura Airports Inaugurates Al Akbar Mosque in Yogyakarta International Airport

KULON PROGO - Angkasa Pura Airports President Director Faik Fahmi inaugurated Al Akbar Mosque in Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta on Thursday (25/4). The Al Akbar Mosque which was built since January 2019 is located in the north side of the passenger terminal.

"The construction of the Al Akbar Mosque is to replace the Al Hidayah Mosque which was built on the construction area of Yogyakarta International Airport. Al Akbar Mosque is larger than the previous mosque. This is a form of respect and commitment of the company in supporting the worship of airport service users, airport communities, and residents around the airport,” Faik said.

The Al Akbar Mosque that features dome is built on an area of 724 square meters and can accommodate up to 600 worshipers. The mosque has eco-green concept and use minimum electricity. AC is not needed to cool the temperature inside the mosque because it has ventilations for air exchange.

In addition, the mosque building is earthquake-resistant as an effort of disaster mitigation. The interior of the mosque uses the ornament of batik kawung, then a park and other supporting facilities will be built in the outer area around the mosque.

The inauguration of the Al Akbar Mosque was marked by the signing of an inscription. On this occasion, assistance was also given to 550 orphans from 10 Islamic boarding schools.
