Obtaining Airport Certificate, Yogyakarta International Airport Ready to Operate

KULON PROGO – Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) is ready to operate after obtaining Airport Certificate No.149/SBU-DBU/IV/2019 issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation on April 26, 2019.

The first commercial flight will take place in the near future by Citilink and Lion Air. Later on, YIA will operate from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. Western Indonesian time. "Through the issuance of an Airport Certificate from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation on March 26, 2019, Yogyakarta International Airport is ready to operate both for international and domestic flights," said Yogyakarta International Airport Acting General Manager Agus Pandu Purnama.

Readiness of Facilities and Services

Technically and administratively, Yogyakarta International Airport is ready to operate. Required documents such as Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP), Airport Certificates, Determination of Customs Areas, Temporary Stockpiling Sites, Immigration Checkpoint have been obtained.

Apart from that, the support services such as flight navigation services; meteorological services; aircraft refueling services; port health facilities, fish, animal and plant quarantine facilities; tenant or commercial area; ground handling, and support for land transportation (Damri bus, shuttle bus, train, taxi) also have been ready.

In general, the airside facility of YIA is 100 percent ready with a runway length of 3,250 meters and a width of 75 meters. The runway is able to accommodate wide-body aircraft such as Boeing 777-300 and Airbus A380. The Rescue Facility for Fire Accidents - Fire Extinguishers (PKP-PK) at YIA is on Category 8.

On the landside, a terminal with an area of 12,900 square meters is ready be used, from a total of 210,000 square meters for the full operation by the end of 2019. The passenger terminal has 12 check-in counters, two x-rays, two walk-through metal detectors (WTMD), 400 waiting chairs, six immigration counters on arrival and departure, and two bag conveyor belts.

Other available airport service facilities are signage, information counters, flight information display system, announcement, information on transportation, customer service with personnel from Kulon Progo, Tourist Information Center, lounges for disabled, toilets for disabled, elevators for disabled, drop zone for disabled, 132 facilities care workers, nursery rooms, kid zones, reading corners, and 400 trolleys.

"As all facilities of YIA is ready and are in accordance with global aviation safety and security standards, we invite other airlines to open new routes from and to YIA. With runway that is capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft, YIA can be a new hub for developing new routes, both international and domestic,” Agus said.
