Kulon Progo, March 24, 2022 - Being the first place for the G20 delegates to set foot in Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) welcomed the delegates with Indonesian hospitality and Yogyakarta specialties to support the G20 delegates who attended the Energy Transitions Working Group on March 23-25, 2022.

YIA welcomed several delegates arriving at the airport with the Hanuman and Ganongan dances, as a collaboration between YIA and a dance studio in Kulon Progo. The Hanoman dance in the Ramayana story depicts a brave and kind central character in the wayang art of the Ramayana story. Meanwhile, Bujang Ganong (Ganongan) or Patih Pujangga Anom is an energetic character in the art of Reog Ponorogo. Through such depiction, it is expected that all the G20 meeting agenda can run well and smoothly, and bring goodness for all global communities.

“Angkasa Pura I as the operator of Yogyakarta International Airport is grateful to be directly involved in supporting security, safety and comfort for delegates attending the G20 Presidency in Yogyakarta and introducing one of Indonesia’s cultures to the world through Yogyakarta International Airport. This is also in line with our vision and commitment to always provide service excellence with Indonesian hospitality,” AP I’s President Director Faik Fahmi said.

In addition, to ensure the smooth arrival process for the delegates, Angkasa Pura I has prepared a special route for arriving and departing delegates, separated from the general passenger route. In addition, the delegates of the G20 meeting in Yogyakarta arriving at Yogyakarta International Airport were greeted with the best service and special transit rooms in collaboration with the Company’s subsidiary, Angkasa Pura Hotel.

“We have prepared a special line and area for the delegates, from warm welcome upon arrival, check-in process and health checks, baggage claim, to the delegation car lane,” General Manager of Yogyakarta International Airport, Agus Pandu Purnama said.

In addition to welcoming the delegates through arts and culture, YIA has also prepared superior MSME products located in Malioboro Monument (KTM) area and Kotagede Market Gallery. 15% of the total commercial area has been provided for MSMEs. The airport collaborated with the DIY Provincial Cooperatives & SMEs Department for the management of MSMEs in Kotagede Market covering an area of 1,475 square meters to facilitate 500 MSMEs. Currently, there were 431 MSMEs from Yogyakarta and Central Java. In addition, in collaboration with Java Connections Art Management, the airport has facilitated 200 MSMEs in a 887 square meter connecting building area.

In line with the implementation of the Energy Transitions Working Group agenda with the topic of securing energy, accessibility, smart & clean energy technologies scaling up and advancing energy financing, YIA participated in realizing a Green Airport that always takes into account the environmental conservation aspect, including water conservation by utilizing rainwater to help meet the clean water needs in the airport.

Rainwater utilization is performed by building regional rainwater tanks to capture, collect, process, and absorb rainwater to be used as an alternative water source for airport operational purposes. Rainwater is collected and filtered using a reverse osmosis system.

To realize a green airport, in addition to saving water, YIA uses various utility devices to support eco-friendly concepts such as the use of LED lights, elevators, lifts, and travelators with sleep mode feature, sanitary ware with dual flush and auto faucet features, and the use of Sunergy glass in Green building with low light reflection that can support the efficient use of air conditioning in the terminal area.

In addition to taking into account environmental sustainability aspects, YIA is designed with a modern style architecture. The building exterior and interior depict Yogyakarta’s culture through the installation of artworks involving various local Yogyakarta artists, as well as specially designed areas  to become the storefronts of Yogyakarta, Kulon Progo, and its surroundings.

“Yogyakarta International Airport was designed and constructed by taking into account environmental conservation aspects in a sustainable manner in various aspects, ranging from environmentally friendly utility equipment, energy savings, to saving water. Therefore, YIA won Gold Greenship Certificate in 2021 from Green Building Council Indonesia,” Agus Pandu Purnama added.

Mr. Phoumin Han, the delegate representing the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) conveyed a good impression of YIA when he arrived yesterday (23/03). “It was my first visit to Yogyakarta. This visit was very interesting for me and I felt the warmth in this place.
