JAKARTA – Indonesian Pilot Association (IPI) collaborates with stakeholders plans to campaign on national aviation safety and security for the public who use air transportation through a sport event “Aviators Fun Walk and Run 5K 2018”. The event will be held on September 23, 2018 at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex in Senayan, Jakarta which was the venue of the 2018 Asian Games back on August 18 to September 2, 2018.

“Aviators Fun Walk and Run 5K 2018 is intended to increase public awareness and people in aviation on national aviation safety as well as disseminating information about the roles and duties of each of the world’s aviation stakeholders,” said Aviators Fun Walk and Run 5K 2018 chief executive Capt. Koko Indra Perdana.

A number of stakeholders are involved in this event, including the Ministry of Transportation, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the Indonesian Military (TNI), and the Indonesia Air Traffic Controllers Association (IATCA).

"In this event, officials from the aviation stakeholders will meet the community and it will be an opportunity to inform about their respective duties. For example, pilots can share their profession that they are responsible in ensuring the safety and security of flight operations,” he said.

Acting Director General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation M. Pramintohadi Sukarno said he welcomed the event because it was an opportunity for the Ministry to directly educate people especially in the role of improving national aviation safety.

"This event can also be an opportunity for stakeholders to inform about the airport management as well as the coordination and rescue in handling transportation accidents," he said.

"As an airport operator, Angkasa Pura Airports strongly supports this event. Sports activities which are fun and involve people of all ages will be very effective for aviation safety and security campaign. In addition, this event was held by IPI which shows that pilots and airlines are also partners and stakeholders of Angkasa Pura Airports. Together, we have responsibility to educate the public to have better understanding on national aviation and its regulations, "said Angkasa Pura Airports human resources and general director Adi Nugroho.

On the same occasion, the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Inspector General Heru Winarko said IPI took the right step to hold an event aimed to educate the public regarding the dangers of drugs for the community and people in aviation in particular.

"Through this event, IPI and BNN will actively campaign for the dangers of narcotics abuse specifically in the transportation industry and also for the public. The threat of narcotics abuse is right in front of our eyes and should be the concern of all parties," he said.
