JAKARTA – I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali has developed other new facilities inside its terminal apart from the apron’s expansion and establishment of VVIP buildings as well as parking spots to welcome 17,000 delegates from 189 countries during the 2018 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Nusa Dua from 8 to 14 October 2018.

"Apart from developing infrastructure related to air transportation, Angkasa Pura Airports has also added some new facilities for the terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali. It is done to ensure the arrival and departure are smooth for the grand event the 2018 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings. Besides, it is also an effort to provide excellent service and create a passenger experience at the airport. Some of the facilities are x-ray smartlane, auto gate immigration engine, orientation zone, and airport operation control center (AOCC),” said Angkasa Pura Airports president director Faik Fahmi.

X-ray smartlane, which is placed in the screening area of the check point, will speed up the process of inspecting prospective passengers’ luggage. For auto gate immigration, auto gate machines are provided as a standalone facility to scan passengers’ passport. Currently, there are six units of auto gate machines at international arrival terminals and 10 units at international departure terminals.

"The 16 immigration auto gate engines will accelerate the immigration inspection process. The total time needed by a passenger when using the auto gate engine is only 30 seconds, a relatively short time to pass through the immigration process. This will certainly increase passenger comfort,” Faik said.

Other new facilities are the orientation zone. Having an elegant and innovative design, this area is designed as an area that has function as a stress reliever for passengers. The orientation zone is aimed for passengers who have just passed an intense inspection process at the check-in and immigration check-in area.

"As the orientation zone is built to accommodate passengers who are going to the departure door, the area is also equipped with various information related to flight schedules and directions to the departure door. [The information] provided are FIDS (Flight Information Display System), world clock and airport directory as well as walking distance which is useful to estimate the time and distance needed by passengers to reach the departure door, commercial area, facilities at the airport and other locations in the international departure terminal,” Faik said.

Another new facility is the airport operation control center (AOCC). The AOCC is not a facility which directly related to prospective passengers but more as facilities for airport stakeholders. AOCC is a control center to oversee operational activities both on the air and on the ground as well as all arrival and departure activities in the airport.

"AOCC involves all stakeholders at the airport by integrating the systems owned by each stakeholder so that it can operate effectively and efficiently. Integration and collaboration are the key to the implementation of AOCC so that the realization of services that prioritize safety and security can be more effective and efficient,” Faik added.

The new facilities at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport have been operated since the end of September 2018. "It is hoped that the new facilities will increase the comfort of the arrival and departure process for the 2018 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings delegates," Faik said.
