Supporting Art Development In Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta International Airport Holds Wayang Exhibition And Art Performance

JAKARTA – Angkasa Pura Airports is always committed to developing regional arts, culture and tourism in line with the company’s business development. In order to realize this commitment, Yogyakarta International Airport - Kulon Progo (YIA) as an icon of Yogyakarta city held an art performance and wayang exhibition.

The wayang exhibition, “We are the Puppets” was held to celebrate National Shadow Puppet Day which falls on November 7. The exhibition was the collaboration result of 22 local artists in Yogyakarta starting from October 15 to November 5, 2021. In addition, YIA will hold a Cultural Arts Performance from October 16 to November 7, 2021 every Saturday and Sunday by presenting various dance and music performances.

“In operating its business, Angkasa Pura Airports always involves and participates in developing regional culture and tourism. The effort is welcomed by stakeholders in the regional culture and tourism sector by making airports, especially Yogyakarta International Airport, a space for creation and promotion of local art, culture and tourism, especially in Yogyakarta. The event at YIA adheres to the implementation of health protocols,” AP I’s President Director, Faik Fahmi said.

YIA’s cultural arts performance collaborated with around 56 cultural villages in five regencies and municipalities in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The art performance was held on Sunday, October 17, 2021 featuring Sanggar Sripanglaras, Javajog Street Brass, dances from the Cultural Village in Bantul, Sleman, Gunung Kidul, Kulon Progo. The dances performed at the event included Merak Ngigel Dance, Sawitri Offering Dance, Turangga Madun Dance, Sekar Pudyastuti Dance, Goyang Senggol Dance, Gedrug Gorayaksa Dance, and Bregada Dance. The art performance will be held every weekend, Saturday and Sunday, until November 7, 2021.

“It is hoped that the art performance can motivate visitors to ‘come back’ to Yogyakarta and can help the recovery of tourism sector and Yogyakarta economy. This cannot be realized without good collaboration from all business actors, art work creators, idea initiators, and airport operator as a room for growth,” Faik Fahmi said.
