SITA EXPANDS CO-OPERATION IN INDONESIA

In a Memorandum of Co-operation signed with airport operator PT Angkasa Pura 1, SITA will install systems to automate and more accurately monitor check in, security and baggage handling, in a move which SITA’s VP for Airport Solutions Llya Gutlin told Airport World will help the airports save money.

“When we talk about passenger flow the traditional model was passengers would get their boarding pass from the airport counter, the airline knows exactly who has checked in and if the person is a no show at the gate.

Now we have a lot more people checking in online, airlines like easyJet provide boarding passes up to 60 days in advance of departure, the question is, is that person at the airport and if not where are they, what we are trying to do is provide accurate passenger management systems at security and when queuing,” said Gutlin.

Quoting figures from SITA subsidiary WorkBridge, Gutlin said the Intelligent Airport system could save airport’s 25% of their passenger processing resource costs.

"Our costs are aligned directly with the actual number of passenger using the airports. It is very much in line with our repositioning and restructuring program, launched by the new Board of Directors assigned by the Indonesian government in July 2010.”

“As we looked at how we should develop Indonesian airports, we realised that SITA has the capability to provide all the information technology systems required for airport management and operations and the flexibility to share our risk by charging on a per passenger basis.”

Airports in Indonesia will be among the first to experience the Intelligent Airport with the implementation of all of the SITA systems planned to be completed at Ngurah Rai Airport before Indonesia hosts the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in Bali in 2013.
