Sam Ratulangi Airport Development Progress Reaches 99 Percent

Jakarta, February 21, 2022 – The development progress of Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado under the management of Angkasa Pura Airports as of February 20, 2022 has reached 99.20 percent and has been targeted for completion by the end of February 2022.

“The development of Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado aims to support the Super-Priority Tourist Destinations (DSP) and Likupang Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in North Sulawesi Province in a sustainable manner. The development of Sam Ratulangi Airport focuses on the expansion and beautification of the existing terminal, expansion of the new terminal building, and the addition of airport infrastructure facilities,” ANGKASA PURA AIRPORTS President Director Faik Fahmi explained.

The terminal expansion included a check-in area, boarding lounge, make-up area for handling passenger baggage, additional toilet units, as well as beautification of the boarding lounge, check-in, and lobby areas. Meanwhile, the new terminal expansion was carried out through the construction of immigration, quarantine, customs and boarding lounge for domestic and international departures and arrivals.

“The development of Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado also increases the passenger terminal area from 26,481 square meters with a capacity of 2.6 million passengers per year to 57,296 square meters that can accommodate 5.7 million passengers per year,” he said.

In terms of facilities, Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado has been equipped with modern facilities starting from the addition of aviobridges, from 4 units to 6 units and check-in counter from 30 units to 45 units. Meanwhile, in terms of infrastructure, the Company carried out the expansion of airport road access, toll gates, sewage treatment plant, water houses, the addition of retention ponds and rainwater tanks as well as expansion of parking areas for 650 four-wheelers from previously 350 four-wheelers and 760 two-wheelers from previously 734 two-wheelers.

In general, Sam Ratulangi Airport terminal has been designed by combining traditional and modern concepts. The traditional touch is in the form of the Tarawesan Pareday batik motif created in a geometric shape (Pakarisan) that resembles a looping line as a representation of a symbol of the wave of human life from two directions, ups and downs.

Support Increased Tourism in North Sulawesi

Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado is located in a strategic location and connects to popular tourist destinations for domestic and foreign tourists such as Bunaken, Linow Lake, Ratahan Telu Waterfall, Woloan Village, and Likupang Beach.

“Angkasa Pura Airports is committed to supporting sustainable tourism development in North Sulawesi Province through provision of a tourism promotion area in the form of a stage for regional dance and music performances in the waiting room. In addition, there is a TV screen display in the passenger waiting room to show regional tourism promotion videos. We will also provide a Tourist Information Center in the international departure area of Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado,” Faik Fahmi added.

For information, in 2021, Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado served 12,065 aircraft movements, consisting of 11,672 domestic flights and 393 international flights. In the same year, the Airport also served 925,017 passenger movements, consisting of 906,916 domestic passengers and 18,101 international passengers. In terms of cargo in 2021, Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado served 16,577 tons of cargo, consisting of 16,065 tons of domestic cargo and 511 tons of international cargo.
