Jakarta, February 22, 2022 - Angkasa Pura Airports prepared to anticipate extreme weather predicted to hit a number of areas in Indonesia. Anticipatory measures were taken to support flight safety and security at airports under the management of the Company.

“Angkasa Pura Airports coordinated with all relevant stakeholders at the airports, including the Airport Authority Office, BMKG, Airnav Indonesia, all airlines and ground handling officers to ensure anticipatory measures for handling aircraft and service users in the event of extreme weather with the potential to disrupt flight operations,” ANGKASA PURA AIRPORTS President Director Faik Fahmi said.

In addition, Angkasa Pura Airports would rely on the use of technology that supports operations and services through the Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC). AOCC functions as a control center to oversee operational activities on the airside and landside and covers all arrival and departure activities at the airports.

AOCC is a forum for collaboration with all stakeholders at the airports consisting of 4As, namely Airport Operator, Airline Operators, Air Navigation, and Authorities such as BMKG, Customs, Immigration, and KKP. The presence of all stakeholder representatives in one room is the implementation of Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) to have a positive impact on joint decision making regarding various operational and service matters that can be taken in a quick and accurate manner for events, including in the event of extreme weather.

Anticipatory efforts in the airside area were made by increasing routine inspections in the runway, taxiway and apron areas to ensure that the rainwater does not form puddles during intense rainfall. Inspections were also carried out on lighting supporting instruments such as Approach Light, Runway Edge Light, Apron Light, Sequence Flashing Light (SQFL), Wind Cone, and other instruments to ensure that the supporting instruments function normally and do not experience interference.

Anticipatory efforts in the landside area were made by preparing a waiting room arrangement scenario at the terminal to prevent a buildup of passengers in the event of flight delays due to bad weather.Waiting room arrangements were needed to ensure optimal implementation of the COVID-19 health protocol, while maintaining comfort for all passengers.

“The anticipatory measures carried out by Angkasa Pura Airports together with all stakeholders are expected to support the application of the principles of Safety, Security, Service and Compliance for aviation safety,” Faik Fahmi added.

For information, on February 21, 2022, the BMKG issued an early warning of extreme weather in parts of Indonesia, such as hail, rain accompanied by strong winds and tornadoes until March-April 2022.
