JAKARTA - Angkasa Pura Airports received ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System certificate for I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali from TUV SUD Indonesia. The certificate handover was a follow-up to the implementation of ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System by I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali as a manifestation of Angkasa Pura Airports commitment to contribute positively to the environment in carrying out its business operations.

The handover of ISO 50001:2018 certificate was carried out by Boyke Lakaseru, UNDP’s Market Transformation for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency through Design and Implementation of Appropriate Mitigation Actions in Energy Sector (MTRE3) National Project Manager to Faik Fahmi, President Director at Angkasa Pura Airports Headquarter on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali has implemented phases of the ISO50001:2018 Energy Management System since February 2021, as a follow-up to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Angkasa Pura I and Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation  (Ditjen EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (KESDM) in October 2020.

“Angkasa Pura Airports is committed to contributing positively to the environment, as a manifestation of the company’s missions. Energy conservation through the implementation of an energy management system and the use of renewable energy at the airport is a manifestation of the implementation of the company’s mission.

Currently, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali was a pioneer airport of Angkasa Pura I that has implemented the ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System and it is hoped that other managed airports can also implement ISO 50001:2018. We would like to thank the Global Environment Facility, UNDP Indonesia, and the Directorate General of EBTKE, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for their support so that Energy Management System can be implemented optimally at Bali Airport and received ISO 50001:2018 certification,” AP I’s President Director, Faik Fahmi said.

I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali was chosen to be the first in Angkasa Pura Airports to implement the ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System because Bali airport is one of the busiest airports in Indonesia. Increased airport operations have an impact on increasing energy consumption, both the use of electrical energy and fuel oil (BBM) energy.

Through the implementation of Energy Management System, the airport can make energy savings or efficiency to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As of May 2021, the implementation of energy management at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali has succeeded in producing energy savings of 4,504,145 Kwh or equivalent to Rp5.35 billion. In addition to the benefits of energy savings, energy management at Bali Airport also has the potential to reduce carbon dioxide gas emissions by 3,558 tons CO2/Mwh.

In relation to energy conservation policies, Management of Angkasa Pura I has issued instructions on steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at managed airports. The instruction contains an action plan to support energy conservation, such as the use of new and renewable energy through the use of solar power plants, the use of solar street lighting, the use of LED lights, and the use of other energy-efficient equipment to support airport operations.

“Implementation of the ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali is real energy conservation and saving effort to support the realization of the green airport. Gradually, we will implement the energy management system at other managed airports so that Angkasa Pura Airports can contribute more in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector as a form of positive contribution to the environment,” Faik Fahmi said.
