JAKARTA - Angkasa Pura I, in particular, Lombok Airport in Praya is ready to support the event and welcome the arrival of participants, officials, and spectators of the 2022 Moto GP event to be held at the Mandalika Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, in March 2022.

This is indicated by the completion of infrastructures at Lombok Airport in Praya, including the expansion of passenger terminal and apron, the extension of runway, and the improvement of cargo facilities.

“Angkasa Pura Airports, in particular, Lombok Airport in Praya is ready to welcome the 2022 MotoGP event at Mandalika Lombok next March along with the completion of Lombok Airport infrastructure prior to the 2021 World SuperBike event. Based on our experience in serving the recent 2021 WSBK participants, officials, spectators, and cargo, we are confident that this year’s MotoGP event can run smoothly,” President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports, Faik Fahmi said.

Currently, the Lombok Airport passenger terminal has been expanded to 43,501 m2 with a capacity of seven million passengers per year compared to 24,123 mpreviously with a capacity of 3.25 million passengers annually. Lombok Airport’s apron can now accommodate 16 aircraft comprising 10 narrow-body aircrafts and 6 wide-body aircrafts, while the runway is ready to support the operation of wide-body aircrafts such as Boeing 777. Moreover, the airport’s 3,300-m runway is the fifth-longest in Indonesia.

In addition, to ready air connectivity, Angkasa Pura Airports has also prepared risk mitigation to anticipate potential risks that may occur during the event, such as overcapacity and bad weather that cause aircraft to be unable to land. The mitigation concept is the One Day Trip in Triangle Area: Lombok Airport - I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali - Juanda Airport in Surabaya. The triangle area covers mitigation efforts such as:

  • Seamless operating hours at the three airports.
  • Reposition aircraft parking in case of overcapacity at Lombok Airport’s apron.
  • Alternate aerodrome will also be conducted in Lombok Airport in case of bad weather or things that have the potential to block the runway.
  • Availability of hotels at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali and Juanda Airport in Surabaya.
  • Angkasa Pura Airports will also coordinate with the airlines regarding the predicted increase in the number of aircraft, fleet management, aircraft rotation, and the readiness of ground handling operators serving the triangle routes.

In order to benefit from the 2022 MotoGP, Angkasa Pura Airports will promote local MSMEs in West Nusa Tenggara province through a collaboration between the province’s Tourism and Creative Economy Department and AP I’s subsidiary, Angkasa Pura Supports. The subsidiary will provide international-scale services for service and security not only at the airport but also in Mandalika. In addition, Angkasa Pura Logistics and Angkasa Pura Retail will provide logistics and retail service as the airport’s carrying capacity.
