Inspecting Lombok Airport Readiness Ahead of The 2022 MotoGP, President Joko Widodo : The Flow & Arrival Process At The Airport Are Managed Well

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo has inspected the facilities of Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, to be used as entry access to NTB ahead of the Mandalika MotoGP on March 18-20, 2022.

Upon arrival at Lombok Airport, President Joko Widodo promptly simulated the arrival of international passengers and inspected facilities at the airport, including temperature checkpoints and electronic Health Alert Card or e-HAC, immigration document checkpoints, baggage collection, and customs checkpoints.

“I checked the arrival gate at the airport and also the process at the airport. I had seen everything related to health protocols, the RT-PCR test booth, and checked the vaccine certificate verification. All processes are being managed well,” President Joko Widodo noted during his visit to NTB, on Thursday (13/1).

Meanwhile, Mandalika MotoGP Field Commander Hadi Tjahjanto noted that the authority will increase flight frequency from several cities to Lombok to support the entry of spectators to Lombok. Accompanying the President during the working visit to Lombok were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, Governor of West Nusa Tenggara Zulkieflimansyah, and the MotoGP Field Commander Mandalika 2022 Hadi Tjahjanto.

President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports Faik Fahmi ensured the readiness of Lombok Airport to welcome the 2022 MotoGP. “Lombok Airport in Praya is ready to welcome the 2022 Moto GP event at Mandalika, Lombok next March along with the completion of Lombok Airport infrastructure prior to the 2021 World SuperBike event. Based on our experience in serving the recent 2021 WSBK participants, officials, spectators, and cargo, we are confident that this year’s MotoGP event can run smoothly,” Faik Fahmi said.

Currently, the Lombok Airport passenger terminal has been expanded to 43,501 m2 with a capacity of seven million passengers per year compared to 24,123 m2 previously with a capacity of 3.25 million passengers annually. Lombok Airport’s apron can now accommodate 16 aircraft comprising 10 narrow-body aircrafts and 6 wide-body aircrafts, while the runway is ready to support the operation of wide-body aircrafts such as Boeing 777. Moreover, the airport’s 3,300-m runway is the fifth-longest in Indonesia.
