President of Republic of Indonesia Inaugurated the New Terminal of Ahmad Yani- Semarang International Airport

SEMARANG - President Joko Widodo inaugurated the operation of the New Terminal of Ahmad Yani – Semarang International Airport, Thursday (7/6/2018) afternoon. The operation of this new terminal, which was built with the investment of IDR 2.075 trillion, was also the solution for the lack of capacity problem that had been going on for the last few years at this airport.

"In Mudik (Indonesia's annual homebound exodus) moments of Lebaran this year, people have been able to enjoy modern and sophisticated facilities at the new terminal of Ahmad Yani - Semarang International Airport. The terminal has an area nearly nine times bigger than the old terminal, and can accommodate 6.9 million passengers per year.

The airport design adopted the concept of eco-airport with most of the buildings standing on the water. With all the advantages and uniqueness, the airport is eligible to become a new icon and pride of the people of Semarang and Central Java," said Faik Fahmi, Director of Angkasa Pura Airports.

According to Faik, the presence of this new terminal was a commitment of Angkasa Pura Airports to airport users and the people of Semarang and Central Java to improve airport service level by giving priority to comfort without neglecting safety and security aspects. "In addition, the operation of this new terminal is also a form of our contribution to respond to regional economic development, Semarang in particular and Central Java in general," added Faik Fahmi.

The new terminal building of Ahmad Yani Airport has an area of 58,652 square meters, as well as new apron which capable to accommodate 12 aircrafts. In addition, the terminal is equipped with 30 check-in counters, 8 escalators, 8 elevators, 2 travellators, and 3 aviobridges. There is also a parking lot able to accommodate 1200 vehicles.

With all these facilities, airport users will be more comfortable during in the airport. The potential for passenger growth of 10% annually can also be accommodated by the presence of new terminals and infrastructure of Ahmad Yani Airport, which is positioned as a business and industrial airport.

 

Carrying the concept of "Eco-airport"

The new terminal design of Ahmad Yani Airport adopted the concept of eco-airport, where the airports are planned, developed and operated with the aim of creating environmentally friendly transportation facilities and infrastructure and contributing positively to the environment.

The terminal building is mostly standing on water and surrounded by ponds, from terminal buildings, parking buildings, and wetland park areas. This is intended to accommodate the land context that was previously a swamp land. In the area of the airport is also planted with 24,000 mangrove seeds to support environmental conservation that bring many advantages of physical, ecological, and economic aspects. The existence of mangrove forests around the airport will be developed as a natural tourism object.

In addition, the airport is also targeted to get Gold Certificate from Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI) where current aspect of Ahmad Yani Airport design is in the process of getting Gold Certification Design Recognition from GBCI. [DR]
