KULON PROGO - In order to provide top service at Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) to all airport users, including those with disability, Angkasa Pura Airports is organizing a series of activities together with the Yogyakarta disability community, the member of the Indonesia Caring community.

Indonesia Caring is a joint community of ASITA (Associate of the Indonesian Tours and Travel), YAKKUM (Christian Foundation for Public Health), UCP (United Cerebral Palsy), GERKATIN (Indonesian Movement for Welfare of the Deaf) and SIGAB (Guidelines for Inclusion and the Disability Advocacy Movement).

"We appreciate the Indonesia Caring Community has participated in providing various recommendations on improving facilities and services for people with disabilities at Yogyakarta International Airport. This is in line with our commitment to make it become the first accessible friendly airport in Indonesia, with accessible facilities and services for people with disabilities when the airport is fully operational in 2020," said Angkasa Pura Airports president director Faik Fahmi.

"The activity that is done today is a follow-up activity after previously starting with preparation, surveying and induction. This assessment is carried out before being listed as suggestions and recommendations by the community for the organizers of facilities and services at Yogyakarta International Airport," said acting Yogyakarta International Airport general manager Agus Pandu Purnama.

Indonesia Caring involved 25 persons with physical sensory intellectual and mental disability to carry out the assessment. It is expected the activity would create recommendations for both physical and non-physical disability so that Yogyakarta International Airport can be a disability-friendly airport.

"This is an extraordinary step by Angkasa Pura Airports that should be appreciated for initiating and seeking the best service, by cooperating with us the Indonesian Caring community. Hopefully this activity can be taken as an example for many airports in Indonesia so that Indonesia can be known as one of the friendly countries for people with disabilities," said Indonesia Caring coordinator Meira Marianti.
