Angkasa Pura Airports Officially Manages Sentani International Airport

JAKARTA - Angkasa Pura Airports officially manages Sentani International Airport in Jayapura through Cooperation on Utilization (KSP) with the Ministry of Transportation. The signing of the KSP was carried out by the Ministry’s Director General of Air Transportation Polana B. Pramesti and Angkasa Pura Airports President Director Faik Fahmi in Jakarta Sunday (10/13/2019), witnessed by the Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi.

The signing of the KSP is part of Government Cooperation with Business Entities (KPBU). Thus, there are 15 airports managed by Angkasa Pura Airports in total.

The scope of the cooperation is related to the management, optimization and development of Sentani International Airport in order to enhance its role for economic development by Angkasa Pura Airports as a business entity mandated by the government through the Ministry of Transportation to manage the airport. As a manager, Angkasa Pura Airports are obliged to make regular contributions and profit sharing annually to the Government of Indonesia. The cooperation valid for 30 years.

"This mandate is a challenge as well as an opportunity for Angkasa Pura Airports to be able to contribute more to increasing economic growth in eastern Indonesia, especially Papua, because Sentani International Airport is an entry point as well as a hub for cargo and passenger distribution in Papua," Faik said.

Angkasa Pura Airports will also develop Sentani International Airport in the near future, both airside and landslide. For the initial stage, Angkasa Pura Airports prepared a development fund of around Rp500 billion to strengthen PCN’s runway so that wide-body aircraft will be able to land. In addition, in order to support the 2020 National Games (PON), the development and arrangement of the landside, both the passenger terminal and parking spot, will also be conducted.

Minister Budi Karya Sumadi appreciated the signing of the KSP and hoped that Angkasa Pura Airports could show professionalism in managing the airports that were mandated by the government.

"I hope Angkasa Pura Airports can show their professionalism to the public that the process requested by the President is indeed right and can benefit Papua. Hopefully what we do will be meaningful to the nation and be even better," Budi said.

Short Profile of Sentani International Airport

Sentani International Airport has served 2.1 million passengers and saw 62,000 aircraft movements in 2018. Sentani International Airport serves 20 destinations with Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Lion Air, Wings Air, Sriwijaya Air, Trigana, NAM Air, Susi Air, Cardig Air, and Dimonim Air with operational time from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time.

For air side facilities, Sentani International Airport has a dimension runaway of 3,000 meters x 45 meters with apron capacity of 13 parking stands for narrow body, eight parking stands for cargo aircraft, and 11 parking stands for small propeller aircraft. As of now, the largest aircraft which can be handled is the B-737 800 NG and 900 ER. Meanwhile, the terminal building has an area of 14,300 square meters (two-storey) and the waiting room can accommodate 2,045 people.
