Pesawat Progo Air Terbakar dalam Simulasi yang Digelar Bandara Adisutjipto

SLEMAN – The Progo Air airline with flight number MBA 212 slipped on Run Way 27 at Adisutjipto in Yogya Airport  and was in flames, on Thursday (22/5/2014). This 320 Airbus plane carried 232 passengers which departed from Soeta Airport to Adisutjipto. When heading to the airport in Yogya, the pilot reported an emergency state of the plane since the engine was on blaze.

After reporting to the Air Traffic Control tower of Adisutjipto, the plane successfully landed. Due to engine problem, the plane slipped on runaway 27 and then broke into fire.  As many as 232 passengers were injured. However, this incident was just a simulation scenario of the Emergency Response Drill (PKD) which was held in commemorating the 76th  anniversary of Dirgantara Raharja (Dirja) and was organized by the management of Angkasa Pura Airports branch of Adi Sutjipto DI Yogyakarta Airport.

This activity is aimed to strengthen the coordination, communication, as well as the command line of all the committee members. This drill was also implemented to test the performance of the Airport Fire Fighters and Rescue (AFFR) and the Aviation Security (AVSEC) facilities to improve the human resource capacities. The General Manager of Angkasa Pura Airports Andy G Wirson said that this practice aims to increase the competence of the airport personnel when encountering emergency situations. “The emergency situations like skidding airplanes, bomb threats, and testing the human resources’ competence in applying the standard operations,” he said.
