Airport development in the Banjarbaru District is comprised of two stages, first the making of a new building next to the existing building Syamsudin Noor Airport. And, the second phase, the existing airport building will be demolished and then merged with the new airport building. With the construction of the second phase, the passenger terminal will expand from 9,043 square meters (m2) to 90,000 m2 and for the apron 80,412 m2 to 125 412 m2 which will be able to accommodate 20 aircraft. In addition, the construction of the second phase of the plan also includes the 3,000-meter runway extension and parallel taxiway.
