JAKARTA - Angkasa Pura Airports’ Branch Office at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya temporarily moved domestic flight operations from Terminal 2 (T2) to Terminal 1 (T1) from Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

The temporary transfer is a follow-up effort in preventing the spread of novel coronavirus and the disease COVID-19 apart from optimizing the use of T1 and improve operational efficiency for T2 amid the declining passenger traffic due to the pandemic. The operator continues to paying attention to the principles of safety, security, service, and compliance with applicable regulations.

The domestic flights that will be moved temporarily from T2 to T1 are those operated by Garuda Indonesia and AirAsia. With this transfer, all domestic flights to and from Juanda International Airport will be served at Terminal 1.

Despite majority of airlines have stopped their international flights, they are still operated on T2, especially for flights serving the return of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) because the company they worked for has stopped operating.

"This temporary transfer is a follow-up effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as well as efficiency in the midst of declining passenger traffic due to the COVID-19 pandemic while keep paying attention to the principles of safety, security, service, and compliance with applicable regulations," said Angkasa Pura Airports president director Faik Fahmi.

Garuda Indonesia’s domestic flights moved from T2 to T1 are flights to and from Jakarta, Semarang, Lombok, Denpasar, Kupang, Makassar and Bandung with a number of daily flights of around nine to 20 flights (departures and arrivals) depending on aircraft occupancy level. Whereas AirAsia Indonesia, since April 1, 2020, has temporarily suspended flight services until May.

The temporary transfer is planned to be carried out until September. If conditions have returned to normal, the domestic flights’ operation of Garuda Indonesia and AirAsia will return to T2.
