MotoGP Logistics Arrives, Lombok International Airport Serves 404 Tons of Cargo

Jakarta, March 11, 2022 - Lombok International Airport served the arrival of cargo aircraft to transport logistics for the MotoGP team that will take part in the 2022 Indonesian Grand Prix to be held at Mandalika Circuit on March 18-20, 2022. As of Friday (11/03) night, five cargo aircrafts landed carrying a total of 404,225 kg of cargo.

The five cargo aircrafts arrived in stages, starting from Wednesday, March 9, 2022 to Friday, March 11, 2022. The logistics of the MotoGP team were all transported using Qatar Airways aircraft departing from Hamad International Airport, Doha, Qatar.

“From Wednesday to Friday night, Lombok International Airport has served five aircrafts transporting the logistics of the MotoGP team. We have served a total of 404 tons of cargo. One of Angkasa Pura Airports’s subsidiaries, Angkasa Pura Logistik, was again trusted by the event organizer to handle the cargo arrival process. As of the end of November 2021, Angkasa Pura Logistik also took part in the World Superbike to handle the logistics cargo of the racing team," President Director of PT Angkasa Pura Airports, Faik Fahmi stated.

“Angkasa Pura Airports and its subsidiaries are committed to supporting the success and smooth running of this prestigious racing event. We have prepared everything at Lombok International Airport, from the airport’s physical infrastructure, human resources, to operational scenarios for the smooth passenger and cargo traffic. Meanwhile, the role of subsidiaries, including Angkasa Pura Logistik, is related to cargo logistics handling, from  loading, distribution, unloading, and breakdown phases. Other Angkasa Pura Airports subsidiaries will also play an active role in the success of the MotoGP event in Lombok,” he continued. 

Based on data, the first MotoGP team’s logistics carrier to land was Qatar Airways flight QR8356 which landed on Wednesday, March 9, at 00:58 WITA, carrying 72,220 kg of logistics. On the same day, two consecutive aircrafts landed at Lombok International Airport, Qatar Airways flight QR8062 at 14:55 WITA carrying 89,910 kg of cargo, followed by Qatar Airways flight QR8000  at 19.31 WITA carrying 83,385 kg of cargo. 

On Friday (11/3) at 03:48 WITA, Qatar Airways flight QR8872 carrying 68,015 kg of cargo was the fourth aircraft to land in Lombok.  Meanwhile, Qatar Airways flight QR8356 landed at 19”20 WITA, carrying 90,695 kg of cargo. 

“A total of 404 tons of cargo containing spare parts and supporting equipment for the racing team have entered Lombok via Lombok International Airport. The first four landed aircrafts were Boeing 777F freighters, while the last landed aircraft on Friday night was Boeing 747-400F freighter. All of them are freighter aircrafts or wide-body cargo aircraft. The smooth handling of this cargo is proof that Lombok International Airport is ready in terms of infrastructure to support the MotoGP event,” Faik Fahmi concluded.

To support the smooth passenger and air cargo traffic during the MotoGP at Mandalika Circuit, Angkasa Pura Airports as the operator of Lombok International Airport has completed the airport development in 2021. The airport runway, which previously had a length of 2,750 meters, has been extended to 3,300 meters, and its carrying capacity has been increased to serve aircraft operations such as Boeing 777.

Meanwhile, in terms of cargo facilities, developments were carried out in the form of 1,500 meter road construction and cargo yard construction covering an area of 6,000 square meters to accommodate 40 cargo trucks to support logistics flows
