Lion Air Opens New Route To Makassar From Yogyakarta International Airport

KULON PROGO - Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo opens a new route to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport (UPG) in Makassar with Lion Air starting Wednesday July 23, 2019.

It is scheduled that the plane would depart from Makassar (UPG) at 08.35 a.m. local time and land at Kulon Progo (YIA) at 09.35 a.m. local time. Then, the aircraft will depart from YIA at 10:05 a.m. local time and land at UPG at 12.55 p.m. local time.

The opening of the new route was marked by the inaugural flight from Makassar to Kulon Progo. Arriving at YIA, the plane was greeted with a ceremony of water salute and flowering for passengers by the airport manager.

"We welcome the opening of new flight routes to and from Yogyakarta International Airport. Besides opening alternative access to Yogyakarta, the opening of this new route increases the potential of tourist traffic to tourist destinations in the southern part of Java and also has the potential to boost the economy of the southern region of Yogyakarta and Java," said Angkasa Pura Airports president director Faik Fahmi.

For information, since the beginning of its operation on May 6 to July 23, 2019, YIA has served 52,567 passengers. With the new route, there will be 10 flights at YIA per day with a capacity of around 1,100 seats per day.

The 10 flights are:

- Batik Air: Cengkareng-Kulon Progo- Cengkareng (CGK-YIA-CGK)

- Citilink: Halim-Kulon Progo-Halim (HLP-YIA-HLP)

- Batik Air: Palangkaraya-Kulon Progo-Palangkaraya (PKY-YIA-PKY)

- Lion Air: Makassar-Kulon Progo-Makassar (UPG-YIA-UPG)

- Batik Air: Kulon Progo-Samarinda-Kulon Progo (YIA-AAP-YIA)

Starting on August 1, there will be one more new route served at YIA; Lombok-Kulon Progo-Lombok (LOP-YIA-LOP) by AirAsia. [DR]
