SEMARANG – In the first quarter of 2014, the number of passengers in Ahmad Yani Semarang Airport  increased by 5% compared to the number of passengers in the same period last year. The General Manager of Angkasa Pura Airport branch of Ahmad Yani Semarang Airport, Priyo Jatmiko said that this growth shows significant development. On average, the number of passengers per year increased at the range of 5%-10%.

“Considering this development, the growth of the passenger ratio is quite encouraging. In the first quarter of 2014, the average number of passengers increased by 5%, which is 5,000 per day,” he said. The rise of passengers at this airport, he added, shows the dynamic business and economic growth around Semarang.

Until July 2013, the passengers in Ahmad Yani Airport totaled to 1.7 million people and at the end of 2013 the number is expected to increase to 3.5 million passengers. The expansion of Ahmad Yani Airport starting in May 2014 includes the construction of the apron covering 61,344 m2 in the first phase and 72,522 m2 in the second phase as well as the new terminal covering an area of 40,900 m2. With this airport expansion, the capacity to serve passengers is projected to increase more than 2.5 fold from 3 million passengers to 10 million. [Diani Sekaring Sejati/Source: Tribun News]
