Jakarta, 23 January 2022 - Juanda Airport in Surabaya has begun to accept arrivals from overseas travelers (PPLN), particularly Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI), on Saturday, January 22, 2022, since the opening of international flights on  January 1, 2022 based on the Decree of the Chairperson of the Covid-19 Handling Task Force Number 1 of 2022 on Entry Points, Quarantine Facilities, and Mandatory RT-PCR test for Indonesian Citizens Traveling Overseas.

The inaugural international flight in 2022 at Juanda Airport Surabaya carried 129 Indonesian Migrant Workers from Malaysia using Malaysia Airlines flight number MH871, landing at 12.11 WIB. The migrant workers were the first overseas travelers since the opening of Terminal 2 of Juanda Airport.

“On Saturday, Juanda Airport, Surabaya received its first international arrival in 2022, namely a flight carrying 129 Indonesian migrant workers from Malaysia. Since its opening for international flights on January 1, 2022, Juanda Airport management has simulated the reception and health checks of foreign travelers so that implementation of the health protocols went smoothly and did not result in a significant backlog of passengers,” President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports, Faik Fahmi said.

From 129 migrant workers undergoing RT-PCR tests in 3 waves, 2 migrant workers were tested positive for Covid-19. However, the type of Covid-19 variant remains unknown. The two migrant workers who tested positive for Covid-19 were immediately evacuated to Dr. Sutomo General Hospital, while migrant workers with negative RT-PCR test results were taken to Quarantine Facility (Hajj Dormitory).

“We would like to thank the stakeholders so that the Indonesian Migrant Workers arrival can be served properly at Juanda Airport,” Faik Fahmi said.
