KULONPROGO- the President of Indonesia Republic Joko Widodo implemented a procession called “Babat Alas Nawung Kridha” and did the laying of the first stone building in Kulon Progo Yogyakarta International Airport, Friday (2017/27/1). The event which was attended by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Luhur Binsar Panjaitan, Minister of Public Works and Housing of the People Mochamad Basoeki Hadimoeljono, the Special Region Governor of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, and the main Director of PT Angkasa Pura I (Ltd) Danang S. Baskoro which was centered in the Village Jangkaran, Temon, kulon Progo regency, Yogyakarta.

“Today we decided to start the construction of the International Airport of Yogyakarta. This was not groundbreaking. Today was a time for “babat alas alas nawung krido”. Patriarchs in Yogyakarta has been seen that in Kulon Progo there will be a large airport,” said Jokowi.

According to Jokowi, the presence of the airport had been planned since last 6-7 years. “When the Governor of Yogyakarta to see me, I said immediately we started together (the construction of this airport).Every work of any kind, any decision, there must be a risk. If it is not decided it will be back and will not be completed until whenever,” exclaimed the President.

Jokowi said that currently Adisutjipto Airport capacity was only 1.6 million passengers have used 7.2 million passengers per year.” It already crowded. Then inevitably (the airport construction) should start immediately. This airport if it done, it will has the capacity of 14 million passengers, it’s huge. The second phase will even up to 20 million passengers. Tourists who come to Yogyakarta is constantly increasing, because the culture is maintained in DIY, “he said.

“In the momentum of the 53 years of Angkasa Pura I, which falls on February 20th 2017, We are ready to undertake the construction of a new airport in Kulonprogo as the substitute of Adisutjipto Airport that was no longer possible to be developed, “said Director of Angkasa Pura I Danang S. Baskoro.

Adisutjipto Airport which currently operates only has an area of 15 thousand square meter terminal with a 2,250 meter runaway and apron capacity of 8 aircrafts. Later, the International Airport of Yogyakarta that was built on an area of 587 hectares in the first phase (2020-2031) will have a terminal covering 130 thousands square meters with a capacity of up to 15 million passengers per year, with a 3,250 meter long runaway and apron 35 aircrafts. At the development stage II (2031-2041), Yogyakarta airport terminal will be developed into a 195 thousand square meters which can accommodate up to 20 million passengers per year, 3,600 meter runaway, and aprons that can be parked up to 45 aircrafts.

“With the construction of the International Airport of Yogyakarta, the problem of lack capacity will be able to overcome. Not only to meet the service standard International Airports in Yogyakarta, the presence of the new airport is also expected to give a multiplier effect, will trigger the economic development, business activities, and to further support the tourism activities of Yogyakarta and Central Java in the southern part,” he said.

For the construction of International Airport in Kulonprogo Yogyakarta, Angkasa Pura I set up an investment of Rp 9.3 trillion. This Airport is targeted for completion in 2019. In addition to the International Airport of Yogyakarta Angkasa Pura I also undertaking the development of two other airports, namely Ahmad yani Semarang Airport which is targeted to operate in 2018 and Syamsudin Noor Airport Banjarmasin is planned for completion in 2019.

Yogyakarta International Airport will be developed in line with the mission of Angkasa Pura I realize the concept of “airport city” in Yogyakarta, which combines the logistics area, industrial areas, as well as tourists areas in one integrated economic area. To support connectivity with the surrounding towns, besides connected by national roads, the airport will also be integrated with the railway line to facilitate transportation to and from the airport.
