JAKARTA – Angkasa Pura Airports prepares some alternative airports to provide parking space for aircraft used by delegations of the 2018 Annual Meetings of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Bali on October 8 to 14, 2018.

There are five alternative airports prepared during the grand event which will be attended by 17,000 people from 189 countries. Those airports are Lombok International Airport in Lombok, Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Sultan Hassanudin International Airport in Makassar, Adi Soemarmo International Airport in Solo and El Tari International Airport in Kupang.

“This is an effort taken by Angkasa Pura Airports to anticipate the limited capacity of Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport even though we have developed special airport facilities to welcome the 2018 IMF-World Bank Group’s Annual Meetings. We do this to assure the transfer between transportation mode during the arrival and departure goes smoothly and comfortably,” said Angkasa Pura president director Faik Fahmi.

Some of the developments carried out at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport include the expansion of the apron from having the capacity of 53 parking stands to 63 parking stands, the addition of rapid exit taxiway to increase the number of aircraft movements to 33 movements per hour and adding check-in counters to 126 units.

To anticipate the possibility of exceed movement of an aircraft beyond the capacity of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport’s apron, Angkasa Pura Airports is preparing a program on alternative airport expansion to increase aircraft parking capacity. These airports are Lombok International Airport, Juanda International Airport, Sultan Hassanudin International Airport, Adi Soemarmo International Airport and El Tari International Airport.

At Lombok International Airport, an apron expansion was carried out with an additional 8 parking stands for narrow-body aircraft. As the result, Lombok International Airport has the total of 18 parking stands. Meanwhile, Juanda International Airport apron added 7 parking stands for narrow-body aircraft and one helicopter. Thus, the airport’s apron has the total of 51 parking stands.

Besides, Sultan Hasanudin International Airport also added 8 parking stands, so it currently has 48 parking stands in total while Adi Soemarmo International Airport added 9 parking stands, from 17 to 26 parking stands. Meanwhile, El Tari International Airport added 5 parking stands so can it currently has 17 parking stands.

"All facilities at these alternative airports have gone through a ready-to-operate verification process from the Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation and are expected to be able to support the success of the 2018 IMF-World Bank 2018’s Annual Meetings," Faik said.
