Boeing 777F, The Logistic Carrier for The 2021 WSBK Lands at Lombok Airport

JAKARTA - The Boeing 777 Freighter cargo aircraft belonging to Qatar Airways flight number QR8356 registration code A7-BFG carrying logistics for the 2021 World Superbike (WSBK) racing event landed at Lombok Airport, Monday (11/8/2021) at 23.01 WITA.

The aircraft which was carrying a cargo of 217 koli with a weight of 68,022 kilograms departed from Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar. After arriving at Lombok Airport and lowering the logistics for WSBK, the aircraft then took off for Hong Kong, Tuesday (9/11/2021) at 01.31 WITA.

“One of the largest aircraft in the world, the Boeing 777 Freighter, has successfully landed smoothly on the extended Lombok Airport runway. The entire unloading process went smoothly and normally. The landing of the Boeing 777-class aircraft is a historic event for Lombok Airport. This proves that runway and the new apron of Lombok Airport are capable of serving large-bodied aircraft,” AP I’s President Director, Faik Fahmi said.

On Tuesday (9/11) in the afternoon, another Qatar Airways Boeing 777 Freighter cargo aircraft with flight number QR8872, registration code A7-BFS, arrived at Lombok Airport carrying 963 koli with a weight of 72,926 kilograms of logistics cargo for the 2021 WSBK. The aircraft departing from Doha, Qatar landed at Lombok Airport at 14.15 WITA.

Ahead of the 2021 WSBK event, Lombok Airport has successfully completed various airport development projects. The Lombok Airport Apron has been expanded from 108,100 square meters to 136,300 square meters, and is able to accomodate 16 aircrafts with a configuration of 10 narrow-body aircrafts and 6 wide-body aircrafts.

The Lombok Airport runway has also been extended from 2,750 meters to 3,300 meters, and its carrying capacity has been increased so that it can serve the operations of Boeing 777-class aircraft.

Meanwhile, in terms of cargo facilities, developments were carried out in the form of building an access road along 1,500 meters and the construction of a cargo yard covering an area of ​​6,000 square meters that can accommodate as many as 40 cargo trucks to support logistics flows.

In addition, Lombok Airport has also completed the passenger terminal expansion project. With this expansion, the Lombok Airport passenger terminal has an area of ​​43,501 square meters which can serve 7 million passengers per year. The airport’s passenger terminal previously only had a capacity of 3.5 million passengers per year with an area of ​​24,123 square meters. Thus, Lombok Airport infrastructure is ready to welcome the arrival of logistics and racing needs as well as the arrival of participants, officials, and spectators of the prestigious the 2021 WSBK racing event at the Mandalika Circuit.

Meanwhile, from an operational perspective, Lombok Airport was ready to welcome this international racing event. To strengthen operational readiness, Lombok Airport has conducted several simulations at the airport. As on October 26, 2021, passenger and intermodal simulation activities have been held to ensure the operational readiness and services of Lombok Airport. Meanwhile, on November 5, 2021, a security exercise will be held to test procedures for handling emergencies at Lombok Airport in order to support the smooth implementation of the 2021 WSBK.
