Angkasa Pura Airports signs MoU with the Kulon Progo administration and PDAM Tirta Binangun Kulon Progo

KULON PROGO - Angkasa Pura Airports signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Kulon Progo administration and the regional owned enterprises, PDAM Tirta Binangun Kulon Progo, on the empowerment of people affected by the development of Yogyakarta International Airport and the provision of clean water to the people.

The MoU materialized Angkasa Pura Airports's commitment to preparing and enhancing participation of residents affected by airport development in Kulon Progo. Angkasa Pura Airports also entered into the agreement to synergize with the Kulon Progo administration and PDAM Tirta Binangun to welcome the Yogyakarta International Airport.

The MoU was signed by President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports, Faik Fahmi; Regent of Kulon Progo, Hasto Wardoyo, and Director of PDAM Tirta Binangun, Jumantoro, in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta on 12 March 2018.

On the MoU, Angkasa Pura Airports expressed its willingness to empower the people affected by the project and the Kulon Progo residents in general, through the process selection, education, and training.

"Besides, we commit to empowering cooperatives to fulfill our social responsibility to the residents affected by the airport development. On the MoU, it is stated that regional owned enterprises in Kulon Progo and Angkasa Pura Airports or its subsidiaries will work together to support the development of the airport and airport services,” Faik said.

Handover of CSR

On this occasion, Angkasa Pura Airports also handed over Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aid in the form of scholarships to 136 students from five villages affected by the construction of the Yogyakarta International Airport in Temon District and some students in Kulon Progo Regency. The scholarships, worth around Rp 665 million, were given to 62 elementary school students, 41 junior high school students, and 33 high school students.

"We hope that the scholarships can help and motivate the residents affected by the construction of airports in Kulon Progo to study," Faik said.

Previously, Angkasa Pura Airports carried out various programs to empower communities in the area. The programs included tourism and skill development programs to support the development of the airport.

The tourism development program included English training. Meanwhile, skill development programs included woodworking, welding, and cooling training.

This training was held in collaboration with the Kulon Progo Job Training Center (BLK). In addition, an integrated agribusiness development program had also been carried out for the elderly and people with disabilities. Angkasa Pura Airports also conducted a program to develop Early Childhood Education (PAUD) in 17 kindergartens in five affected villages, a program worth Rp255 million (US$18,300).

"Until now, the amount of CSR assistance given by Angkasa Pura Airports to the residents has reached Rp8.2 billion. We hope these various efforts can bring positive impacts on the residents of Kulon Progo. In the future, they will be the ones who will experience the multiplier effect from operation of the Yogyakarta International Airport," said Faik Fahmi.
