JAKARTA - Angkasa Pura Airports has served 4.5 million passengers during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) 2020 holidays. The figure is obtained from the Nataru period of 19 days, starting December 19, 2019 until January 6, 2020 at 14 airports managed by Angkasa Pura I.

This year, the passenger traffic during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday has decreased 3.3 percent from 4.6 million passengers in 2019 to 4.5 million passengers in 2020.

The highest traffic growth during the Christmas and New Year holidays was seen at Lombok International Airport with an increase reaching to 15.19 percent. In this period, the total passenger traffic through Lombok International Airport reached 190,000 people from 168,000 people in the same period in 2019.

Meanwhile, in terms of the number of passengers, same as last year, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali contributed the highest passenger traffic of 1.4 million passengers this year, compared to the same period last year which was only 1.3 million passengers. The second highest passenger traffic was seen at Surabaya’s  Juanda International Airport with a total of 919,000 passengers and the third highest was at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar with a total of 479,000 passengers.

"The charm of Bali as a favorite tourist destination for both foreign and domestic tourists during the Christmas and New Year holidays is indeed extraordinary. This is proven by the passenger traffic through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport which never recedes, and continues to grow," said the Angkasa Pura Airports president director Faik Fahmi.

The increase in traffic was also seen at Sam Ratulangi International Airport in Manado of 5.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the passenger traffic at Jayapura’s Sentani International Airport, which has just been managed by Angkasa Pura Airports as of January 1, 2020, during the Nataru period has reached 36,570 passengers, declined three percent from 37,497 passengers in the same period last year.

Faik added the decline in passenger traffic at several airports under Angkasa Pura Airports, especially in Java, still caused by the same factors as last year which is the operation of Trans Java Toll Road, relatively high ticket prices, and various choices of other modes of transportation.

Appreciation of Personnel in Charge during Christmas and New Year’s holiday

The last day of the Nataru Command Post 2020 was on Monday (6/1). Faik, representing the management of Angkasa Pura Airports, expressed his appreciation for the full support of all personnel, both from the internal Angkasa Pura Airports and related stakeholders such as the Airport Authority Office, the Indonesian Military, the National Police, AirNav Indonesia, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Port Health Office, airlines, ground handling, and other parties involved, so that the implementation of the Christmas and New Year 2020 Posts at 14 airports under Angkasa Pura Airports runs well.

"I would like to express my gratitude and highest appreciation for the support and cooperation of all parties who have succeeded in creating airport operations that prioritize the aspects of safety, security and comfort during the implementation of the Christmas and New Year 2020 Posts in all airports that we manage," Faik said.
