Angkasa Pura Airports Predicts to Serve 2.4 Million Passengers on the 2022 Eid Transportation

Jakarta, April 20, 2022 - Angkasa Pura Airports  predicted to serve 2.4 million passengers, an increase of 452 percent compared to the 2021 Eid transportation abolition period of only 428,156 passengers at managed 15 airports. Meanwhile, aircraft movement traffic was predicted to reach 19,579 aircraft movements, an increase of 230 percent compared to the same period in the previous year of 5,931 aircraft movements.

As of April 20, 2022, Angkasa Pura Airports  has received 1,001 extra flights from various airlines at 11 managed airports. The 4 airports with the most extra flight requests were Juanda Airport in Surabaya with 246 flights, Syamsudin Noor Airport in Banjarmasin with 192 flights, SAMS Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan with 147 flights and Yogyakarta International Airport with 142 flights.

“With the request of 1,001 extra flights, at least 160,000 additional seats are available for airlines to transport passengers during the Eid Transport period. The peak of homecoming flow is estimated to occur on April 29 and the reverse flow on May 8, 2022. Angkasa Pura Airports  will prepare Integrated Eid Transport Command Post at 15 airports from April 25 - May 10, 2022 to ensure that operations and services to passengers at the airport run well, smoothly and conducively while maintaining the implementation of the COVID-19 health protocols,” AP I’s President Director, Faik Fahmi said. 

The Integrated Eid Transportation Post will operate according to airport operating hours and involve AP I’s internal and external personnel at the airport, including the Airport Authority Office, TNI, Polri, BMKG, Airnav Indonesia, Custom-Immigration-Quarantine (CIQ), Port Health Office, airlines, and ground handling.

“The total number of personnel deployed at Integrated Eid-Al Fitr Transportation Posts has reached 4,152, consisting of  3,982 internal personnel from Airport Security, ARFF, Airside, Landside & Terminal Officers, Safety Officers and Customer Service and 170 external personnel consisting of BKO TNI & Polri,” Faik Fahmi stated. 

“Angkasa Pura Airports  together with relevant stakeholders at the airport will ensure the implementation of Ministry of Transportation Circular No. 48 of 2022 as amendment to Circular No. 36 of 2022 as a requirement for travel by air transportation and is committed to ensuring the implementation of the Covid-19 health protocols in accordance with applicable regulations to realize safe and healthy flights for all service users,” Faik Fahmi explained. 

AP I’s airport officers always ensure the cleanliness of public facilities such as check-in counters, trolleys, self-check-in machines, security checkpoints (tray & x-ray), toilets, boarding pass scanners, handrails, armchairs, and other facilities at the airports, we carry out intensive and periodic cleaning using disinfectants.

Meanwhile, operation officers on duty are required to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as goggles or face shields, masks, gloves and provide hand sanitizer in terminal areas. In addition, we have set a minimum queue distance of 2 meters at the check-in counter area, security checkpoint, immigration, boarding lounge, aviobridge, baggage claim area and waiting area for public transportation to implement physical distancing. 

“We always urge all service users to comply with the applicable travel requirements of the Covid-19 National Task Force and jointly maintain the application of health protocols such as wearing masks, maintaining distance, always maintaining personal hygiene when traveling by air and undergoing vaccination so that the pandemic will soon be over,” Faik Fahmi added.

To ensure the smooth airport operation amid increasing flight traffic during Eid Transport, Angkasa Pura Airports  has also taken steps to adjust operating hours at 6 airports, including:

  1. Juanda Airport in Surabaya extended operating hours during the pandemic from 05.00-20.00 to 05.00-22.00.
  2. Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar extended operating hours during the pandemic from 04.00-21.00 to a full 24 hours. 
  3. SAMS Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan extended operating hours during the pandemic from 06.00-18.00 to 06.00-23.00.
  4. Yogyakarta International Airport extended operating hours during the pandemic from 07.00-19.00 to 07.00-21.00.
  5. Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang extended operating hours during the pandemic from 07.00-18.00 to 07.00-19.00.
  6. Syamsudin Noor Airport in Banjarmasin extended operating hours during the pandemic from 07.30-18.00 to 06.00-22.00.
