Angkasa Pura Airports Wins Two Awards in the 2022 Best Corporate Transparency and Emission Reduction

Jakarta, 22 April 2022 - Angkasa Pura Airports  won two awards in the 2022 Best Corporate Transparency and Emission Reduction event organized by Berita Satu Media Holding. In the award held online on Friday (22/04) afternoon, Angkasa Pura Airports  won Green Degree Emission Reduction Transparency - SOE Sector Category and Platinum Degree Emission Calculation Transparency - SOE Sector Category. 

Angkasa Pura Airports  and 86 other companies won awards intended for companies that are considered to have a positive contribution in their efforts to save the earth through concrete steps in managing and reducing carbon emissions in a sustainable manner.

The award was received virtually by Vice President Corporate Secretary Handy Heryudhitiawan. “We would like to thank Berita Satu Media Holding and Bumi Global Carbon Foundation for the assessments so that we managed to win two awards. This is proof that Angkasa Pura Airports  is on track to manage the airport and maintain environmental sustainability,” Handy said. 

“Through its 15 airports and 32 million passengers in 2021, Angkasa Pura Airports  is committed to continuing to innovate and support the implementation of Government programs, especially from the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises in relation to the Sustainability Development Goals,” he added.

As a company with a mission of Making a Positive Contribution to Environmental Sustainability, Angkasa Pura Airports  has implemented a number of company policies positively correlated to energy conservation and greenhouse gas emission management aimed at preserving the environment.

As an airport operator, Angkasa Pura Airports  applies the concept of an eco-friendly airport through the implementation of ISO 14001:2015 standards at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali and Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar. Angkasa Pura Airports  has also developed a green building concept to minimize the use of water and energy through the use of alternative water sources other than groundwater, implement wastewater recycling, and rainwater collection, and ensure the availability of green open spaces used as water catchment areas.

Angkasa Pura Airports  has also designed two airports, namely Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang and Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo, with an environmentally friendly design concept in the form of a skylight design to reduce the energy consumption of lighting. In addition, Angkasa Pura Airports  also continuously implements a carbon footprint reporting policy at the 13 airports under its management using the ACI’s Airport Carbon and Emissions Reporting Tool (ACERT) formulation every 6 months to the Airport Directorate of the Ministry of Transportation.

As an airport operator with continuous improvement of service quality standards for airport service users, Angkasa Pura Airports  has a policy to ensure that airport development or construction does not disturb natural habitats and biodiversity by conducting habitat management study, Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL) and Traffic Impact Analysis.

Through the implementation of these policies, Angkasa Pura Airports  has always recorded a decrease in energy consumption at the 15 airports under management from year to year. The company recorded fuel consumption in 2021 of 2,961 GJ, decreased by 21% compared to 3,588 GJ in 2019. In 2020, Angkasa Pura Airports  recorded electrical energy consumption of 177,673,991 kWh, decreased by 13% compared to 2019 of 201,093,136 kWh.

In relation to the amount of emissions produced at 15 airports under management, Angkasa Pura Airports  also recorded a decrease in the total amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 102% from 216,783.04 Tons CO2 eq in 2019 to 107,182.30 Ton CO2 eq in 2020. 

News Director of Berita Satu Media Holding Primus Dorimulu said that this award is an appreciation for the company’s efforts to reduce GHG emissions. “This award is our appreciation for corporations that have demonstrated compliance in implementing ESG through compliance transparency in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Corporations are expected to be at the forefront of running a green economy to reduce global warming and restore our ailing earth,” he said.

“This award will further motivate us to make better efforts to support the aviation and tourism industry, that has a direct and sustainable positive impact on the community and the environment,” Handy concluded.
