Supporting the Export Growth of Fishery Products in Biak, Angkasa Pura Airports Plans to Develop Cargo Facility at Frans Kaisiepo Airport in Biak

JAKARTA - Frans Kaisiepo Airport in Biak under the management of Angkasa Pura Airports is ready to support export growth of fishery products in Biak, Papua. This is in accordance with the Government’s plan to develop the fishery sector in Biak Numfor Regency by making the Regency the National Fish Barn.

The Government’s plan can be seen from the working visit of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs (Menkomarves) Luhut B. Panjaitan, the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, and the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono to Biak Numfor Regency to ensure infrastructure and facilities for supporting the export of fishery products in Biak on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. During the working visit, the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi considered that Frans Kaisiepo Airport in Biak has been sufficient to support the export of fishery commodities from Biak to Asian countries.

“Angkasa Pura Airports always supports the realization of various Government programs to develop regional economic potentials, including optimizing the fisheries sector in Biak Numfor Regency. To support this, the Company planned to develop cargo facility at Frans Kaisiepo Airport in Biak. Hopefully, with the development plan, it will further support the potential for increasing the export capacity of fishery products in Biak,” said President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports, Faik Fahmi.

Currently, Frans Kaisiepo Airport in Biak has a cargo terminal covering an area of 324 m2 with an inbound capacity of 20 tons of cargo per day and an outbond capacity of 12 tons of cargo per day. In future, the cargo terminal of Frans Kaisiepo Airport in Biak will be expanded to cover an area of 3,800 m2, equipped with 2 refrigerated warehouses with each capacity of 5 tons and a transshipment warehouse covering an area of 60 m2 with a capacity of 65 tons.

The fishery commodities shipped from Frans Kaisisepo Airport in Biak are lobster, grouper and shrimp to Jakarta, Denpasar, Makassar, Sentani, and Surabaya. It was only in August 2021 that fishery commodities in Biak were exported to Singapore. In the future, fishery commodities in Biak have the potential to be exported directly to China and Japan.
