Six Airports of Angkasa Pura Airports Serves 108,000 Hajj Pilgrims to Return Home

JAKARTA - Six airports managed by Angkasa Pura Airports has seen the return of 108,507 hajj pilgrims, who are divided into 267 groups with a total baggage of 3,013 tons, from the Holy Land of Mecca.

The entire process of returning the pilgrims back home began from August 18 to September 15, 2019. It was safe and smooth.

In this year’s Hajj season, Angkasa Pura Airports has prepared six airports for Hajj embarkations, namely Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport in Balikpapan, Adi Soemarmo International Airport in Surakarta, Lombok International Airport in Praya, and Syamsudin Noor International Airport in Banjarmasin.

During the return period, there were 12 people died due to illness and six were ill. Most of them planned to return to Lombok, Banjarmasin, and Makassar. Six out of 12 pilgrims who died planned to go back home via Lombok International Airport, another five via Syamsuddin Noor International Airport and one via Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport. Meanwhile, five ill pilgrims planned to return via Lombok International Airport and one via Syamsuddin Noor International Airport.

"During the return period on August 18 to September 15, 2019, six airports managed by Angkasa Pura Airports have successfully served more than 108,000 pilgrims. Juanda International Airport in Surabaya sees highest number of returned pilgrims of 37,956 from 85 groups, followed by Adi Soemarmo International Airport in Solo with 34,671 pilgrims from 97 groups,” said Angkasa Pura Airports president director Faik Fahmi.

Meanwhile Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport Makassar saw 18,078 pilgrims from 40 groups returned, SAMS Sepinggan international Airport saw 6,767 pilgrims from 15 groups, Syamsudin International Noor Airport saw 6,097 pilgrims from 19 groups, and Lombok International Airport saw 4,938 pilgrims from 11 groups returned.

The total number of pilgrims who departed to the Holy Land through the six airports of Angkasa Pura Airports from July 6 to August 6, 2019 was 109,000, divided into 267 groups with the total luggage of 2,123 tons.

"Overall, the transportation of the 2019 pilgrimage at the six airports of Angkasa Pura Airports runs well, safe, and smooth. We are grateful to all relevant parties who have contributed to the quality service and operational of hajj transportation this year,” Faik added.
