JAKARTA - After successfully supporting the implementation of the 20th Papua National Sports Week (PON) in mid-October, Sentani Airport in Jayapura under the management of Angkasa Pura Airports is also ready to welcome the arrival of the XVI Papua 2021 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) that will be held from November 2-15, 2021.
“Angkasa Pura Airports also supports the successful implementation of Peparnas XVI Papua through its readiness to welcome athletes with special needs at Sentani Airport in Jayapura,” AP I President Director, Faik Fahmi said.
The readiness of Sentani Airport in Jayapura was shown by the smooth simulation of welcoming athletes participating in Peparnas XVI conducted out on October 29, 2021. The simulation was conducted by involving the Peparnas XVI committee and Sentani Airport stakeholders such as ground handling personnel and airport porters.
Angkasa Pura Airports has prepared a fast track and special area for athletes and Peparnas officials to anticipate potential buildup of prospective passengers. In addition, the company has prepared 2 ramps in the arrival and departure lobby areas, 1 ramp in the airside corridor (fixed bridge 1), and 2 ramps in waiting room area. There are a total of 5 ramps at Sentani Airport.
Meanwhile, 4 portable toilets have been provided on the air side of arrival area for athletes with special needs to anticipate the toilet needs of participants who have just landed. With the availability of the portable disabled toilets, total disabled-friendly toilets at Sentani Airport increased to 8 toilets, the remaing toilets are located in the waiting room on the first and second floors as well as in baggage claim area. In addition, sofas or special chairs are provided for passengers with disability in the waiting room area on the second floor.
“We hope that the smooth and comfortable mobility of the participants and Perpanas committee at Sentani Airport can support the smooth implementation of the Perpanas XVI as a whole,” Faik Fahmi said.
