PT Bandara Internasional Batam Officially Manages Batam’s Hang Nadim Airport

Jakarta, June 24, 2022 – On Friday, June 24, 2022, the signing of the handover for the operation of Hang Nadim International Airport from the Free Trade Zone and Free Port of Batam (BP Batam) was signed to PT Batam International Airport (PT BIB). PT Bandara Internasional Batam (PT BIB) is a consortium formed by Angkasa Pura Airports with 51% share ownership, Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) 30% shares, and 19% shares owned by PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk [WIKA],

The signing was carried out by the Head of BP Batam Muhammad Rudi to Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah as the Managing Director of the Managing Business Entity of PT Batam International Airport
(PT BIB). Batam International Airport will be managed as of 1 July 2022 by PT BIB with a management period of 25 years.

Also attending the handover ceremony were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Secretary General of the Ministry of Transportation Novie Riyanto, President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports Faik Fahmi, representatives from Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) Min Jae Chun, and Director of Operations III PT Wijaya Karya. Previously, on December 21, 2021, the Batam Free Trade Area and Free Port Concession Agency (BP Batam) signed a management cooperation (design, development, financing, transfer, operation, and maintenance) with PT Bandara Internasional Batam.

PT Bandara Internasional Batam will then be responsible for the operation and development of the airport which includes the renovation, expansion and maintenance of the existing passenger terminal (Terminal 1), construction of the passenger terminal (Terminal 2), management of the new cargo terminal, as well as the development of the master plan for Hang Nadim International Airport. with the concept of Logistics Aerocity.

The President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports, Faik Fahmi, who is also the President Commissioner of PT Bandara Internasional Batam, is optimistic about the prospects for Batam's Hang Nadim Airport. "As of July 1, 2022, Hang Nadim International Airport is officially managed by Angkasa Pura I through PT Bandara Internasional Batam. This is certainly a major milestone for the company in proving the capability and quality of Angkasa Pura I in managing the airport. We are determined to be able to develop Hang Nadim Airport to become an influential airport, especially as an air cargo logistics center, not only in Indonesia, but also in the Asian region," said Faik Fahmi.

"This is also the first step in the company's business transformation carried out by Angkasa Pura Airports to increase the company's revenue potential. Together with Incheon International Airport Corporation and PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk [WIKA] which are members of the consortium, we are determined to facilitate the achievement of targets Batam's economic growth through several steps that have been previously announced by BP Batam," he continued.

Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto hopes that Batam's Hang Nadim Airport can play a positive role in the supply chain process for industrial goods. "Airports are game changers because logistics from Batam are now more expensive than logistics from Singapore. Of course, with an airport, it is hoped that with this collaboration, cargo can become a hub to be able to push the supply chain. We hope this hub can also be a gateway," said the Coordinating Minister. Airlangga.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Batam International Airport Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah is optimistic that he can contribute positively to the Batam economy. "We hope that the arrival of
PT BIB can bring Hang Nadim Airport to be better, able to compete in the international arena. We also hope that Hang Nadim's presence will have an impact on the local community, not only to Angkasa Pura Airports, not only to WIKA, not only to Incheon, but the local community is also developing in line with Hang Nadim's development," he said.
