JAKARTA - The Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Karya Sumadi inspected the readiness of Sentani Jayapura Airport in welcoming the participants and contingents of the National Sports Week (PON) XX Papua on Saturday, September 25, 2021.
The Minister of Transportation inspected the readiness of Sentani Airport during his work visit to Jayapura on September 24-25, 2021 to review the readiness of transportation facilities to support the implementation of PON XX.
President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports, Faik Fahmi said, “Angkasa Pura Airports will make its best attempt to prepare a scenario for welcoming the arrival of PON XX Papua participants, so that the flow of PON XX participants and contingents arrival can run smoothly. The Company provided a fast track or special arrival lane for PON participants using regular flights, they can head straight from the arrival area to the PON XX Post located in the lobby of Sentani Airport. After the participants and contingents register at the PON Post, they will soon take the bus to Barnabas Youwe Stadium. Meanwhile, PON XX participants and contingents using special flights will be picked up from the airport using a bus to head straight to Barnabas Youwe Stadium where the validation and administration process take place, so that they are separated from general passengers”.
To live up to Sentani Airport, Faik Fahmi continued, Angkasa Pura Airports beautified the passenger terminal and installed ornaments with the nuances of PON XX, so that the splendor of PON XX can be felt while seeing the fresher look of Sentani Jayapura Airport. The Terminal beautification was carried out through rearrangement of the layout of the commercial area and interior renovation by adopting local batik wisdom and typical Sentani carving motifs. In addition to the beautification of the passenger terminal, the Company carried out lane taper to increase runway pavement strength for smooth landing of Boeing B737 800 NG and Boeing B737 900ER, apron repair, and taxiways repair.
In addition, in order to support the implementation of PON XX, the Company promoted PON XX Papua through PON XX Papua broadcasting on outdoor advertising at 15 managed airports. Further, the Company provided special exhibition area for branding and promotion activities for PON XX Papua at three airports, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, Sentani Airport in Jayapura, and Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar. In addition to using outdoor advertising at all the Company’s airports, the promotion of PON XX Papua was also carried out on the Company’s communication media, such as website and social media.
For information, since September 19, 2021, PON XX participants and contingents from various regions in Indonesia have arrived with total contingent arrivals from September 19 to 24 of 2,209 people, 51 aircrafts, and 2,020 kg of cargo.
