JAKARTA – Commemorating the 50th anniversary of Angkasa Pura Airport falling on February 20, 2014, a series of activities were performed by the management of airports ini central and east Indonesian regions throughout year 2014. One of them is the oration on “National History in Boosting the Spirit of Serving ", which presents Armansjah Abdulrachman, or better known as Abah Iwan. The event in which officials and employees of Angkasa Pura Airports and its affiliates attended was organized in the Angkasa Pura Airports Multi-Purpose Building, Kemayoran, Jakarta, Thursday noon (16/1).

"This year, in the 50th anniversary of Angkasa Pura Airports, I deliberately invite the guru of many people, Abah Iwan, to share and give inspiration," said Angkasa Pura Airports President Director Tommy Soetomo.

Around 400 people in audience, including an artist and businessman Setiawan Djodi, were touched by the performance of Abah Iwan. The man, born in Sumedang, September 3, 1947 gave oration, sang songs, and told stories how his songs such as "Melati dari Jayagiri" (made popular by Bimbo) and "Burung Camar" (Vina Panduwinata) were created. Abah Iwan "reviewed” the lyrics of the songs, defined and gave lectures full with motivation, lessons, pumped up nationalism, and instilled love toward the environment.

In addition to "Melati dari Jayagiri" and "Burung Camar", Abah Iwan is also known as the writer of other legendary songs, such as "Mentari", "Flamboyan", "Detik Hidup", "Seribu Mil Lebih Sedepa", "Hymne Wanadri", up to "Hymne Unpad". The honorary member of Wanadri is also known as a master of the martial art, and a civilian who once served as a commando in the army.

At the end of the event, Abah Iwan called on the audience to realize and make use of the time and to feel frightened if they fill their life with useless things. "Fate is a mandate that we receive and for which we have to implement full heartedly, with dignity and pride. You should not work only for work, but work with full dignity," he said.

The event was closed by Abah Iwan by asking all the audience to stand up and sing the national anthem "Indonesia Raya". "This is truly a birthday gift that pumps up our spirit and has a profoundly-deep meaning. Hope Angkasa Pura Airports and all its employees are like stars in the sky, giving inspiration and hope to the people using air transportation services," said Heru Legowo, the Operations Director of PT Gapura Angkasa who was also present in the event.
