Jetstar airline reconnected Perth and Bali, carrying 153 passengers on inaugural flight

Jakarta, April 8, 2022 - I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport has added to the list of regular international flight routes by re-operating the Perth-Bali flight route (vv) served by the Jetstar airline. Flight JQ110 which landed in Bali on Friday (08/04) at 11.44 WITA was the initial milestone for the route operation that had stopped since March 2020. The flight, using  Boeing A320 aircraft, carried 153 passengers.

The same aircraft took off at 13.10 WITA carrying 87 passengers to serve the Bali-Perth flight route via flight number JQ109. Based on the schedule, flights on this route will operate every day.

“After connecting two cities in Australia to Bali, as of today, the operation of Jetstar flight connecting Perth with Bali added the list of flights to Bali. Currently, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport served flights to and from three cities in Australia, namely Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. Prior to the pandemic, Australia was one of the countries that consistently contributed the most foreign tourists to Bali. It can be said that Bali is popular with Australians. With the increasing number of routes connecting to Bali, we are optimistic about the potential increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Bali, including tourists from Australia,” AP I’s President Director Faik Fahmi said.

Quoted from an official statement, Jetstar Group CEO Gareth Evans likewise said “we are excited to return to Bali from Perth today after two years. The first flight tickets sold out today give us confidence that Bali will remain as popular with Western Australians as it was before the pandemic,” Gareth Evans said.

With the operation of this route, currently, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport served eight regular international routes, namely Singapore, Melbourne, Sydney, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, Istanbul, and Perth. Australia is the country with the most cities connected to Bali, namely three cities. 10 airlines served regular international flights, including Garuda Indonesia, Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Jetstar Asia, Scoot, KLM, Jetstar, AirAsia, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines.

Gareth Evans also highlighted the economic potential resulting from the re-operation of this route. “Prior to Covid-19 pandemic, Jetstar operated 85 weekly round-trip flights to Bali from across Australia, carrying more than two million passengers annually and contributing nearly A$2 billion annually to Bali’s local economy,”  Gareth Evans continued.

“During March, we recorded nearly 30 thousand passengers and 257 international route flights served at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. Despite far from the pre-pandemic figure, but it is a good start for all of us working hard to restore the glory of the aviation industry, especially international route flights. With the increasing number of regular international routes, we are optimistic that the increasing number of passengers and foreign tourists will have positive implications to encourage economic recovery and tourism in Bali in particular, and Indonesia in general,” Faik Fahmi concluded .
