I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport to Close for 24 Hours for Silence Day

Jakarta - I Gusti Ngurah Rai international airport in Bali is set to halt operations for 24 hours on Thursday, March 3, 2022 to observe Nyepi (Hindu Day of Silence). The airport will stop flights starting from 6 a.m. local time on Thursday to 6 a.m. the following day. During the closure, there are approximately 115 flights from and into Bali will not operate.

The President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports, Faik Fahmi said “The airport will halt all flight operations for 24 hours to respect Hindus in Bali, so they can observe Nyepi solemnly,”

“We have coordinated with related stakeholders especially airlines to stop selling flight tickets from and into Bali during Nyepi,” he added.

The closure is based on the issuance of Notice to Airman (NOTAMN) number A0031/22 NOTAMN for all airlines and airports in the world on notifications of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport’s flight activities during the observance of Nyepi.

“During Nyepi, we have staff members who will keep working at the airport to anticipate any possible emergency landings, technical problems and medical evacuation procces,” Faik Fahmi said.

There are approximately 58 arrival flights and 57 departure flights will temporarily be suspended during Nyepi. Lion Air’s flight were the most affected by this temporary closure, reaching 29 flights with 15 flights departing to Bali and 14 flights departed from that island. Citilink and Wings Air flights were also suspend service of 22 and 21 flights during Nyepi.

The most affected routes are from and into Soekarno-Hatta in Jakarta  with 57 flights, Juanda Airport in Surabaya with 16 flights, and Zainuddin Abdul Madjid airport in Lombok with 9 flights schedule.
