Four Months Operating, YIA Serves 96,000 Passengers

KULON PROGO - Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo has served 96,000 passengers after operating for four months.

The figure is recorded since the opening of the first commercial flight at the airport on May 6, 2019 and until August 31, 2019. There was a significant passengers increase in August 2019 compared to the previous month.

"In July 2019, YIA served 27,585 passengers while in August 2019 there were 38,646 passengers. This means 40 percent increase in passengers number,Angkasa Pura Airports president director Faik Fahmi.

Currently, there are 14 flight schedules in YIA every day with destinations to Jakarta (CGK), Jakarta (HLP), Palangkaraya, Samarinda, Lombok and Makassar served by four airlines, namely Citilink, Batik Air, Indonesia AirAsia, and Lion Air.

On September 25, 2019, there will be six more flight routes at YIA operated by Lion Air. The airline with the red lion logo will open Kualanamu-YIA-Kualanamu route, YIA-Tarakan-YIA, YIA-Pontianak-YIA. Therefore, there will be 20 flight schedules served at YIA.

In the future, several airlines also plan to open several new routes, both to and from YIA, including Citilink, Batik Air, and Lion Air airlines that will open 16 more routes, so that there will be a total of 36 flights served at YIA,Faik added.

The additional flight schedule is in line with the progress of airport development. Until the first week of September 2019, YIA's development progress has reached 82 percent. The construction of the airport is targeted to be 100 percent complete by the end of the year and can be fully operational in early 2020. Later, most of the flights served at Adisutjipto International Airport will be transferred to YIA.
