During The Christmas and New Year Period, Angkasa Pura Airports Prepares Posts for Christmas and New Year Transportation

Seven days after the implementation of the Command Post, Angkasa Pura Airports has served 928,315 passengers, an increase of 18 percent compared to the same period in 2020.

Jakarta, December 25, 2021 - Angkasa Pura Airports has set up an Integrated Command Post for Monitoring Christmas and New Year’s Transportation (Nataru) at 15 managed airports. This was intended to oversee the potential increase in passenger flow, as well as to ensure the security, safety, and comfort of airport service users during the period of Christmas 2021 and New Year 2022.

The monitoring post has been opened since D-8 Christmas ( December 17, 2021) and will last until January 4, 2022, or will operate for 19 days. The existence of the command post is also intended to oversee the implementation of strict health protocols at 15 airports under the management of Angkasa Pura Airports.

“To welcome Christmas and New Year 2022, as an airport operator, we reopened the Integrated Monitoring Post. We always ensure strict implementation of health protocols, considering the potential for a surge in passenger flow during the period. Therefore, through collaboration and coordination, we are also committed to ensuring the security, comfort, and safety of airport service users during the festive period,” AP I’s President Director, Faik Fahmi said.

Angkasa Pura Airportsas the airport operator ensures the implementation of strict health protocols at all airports by preparing patrolling personnel to monitor the implementation of health protocols in the terminal area, cleaning facilities frequently used by passengers at the terminal, ensuring the implementation of minimum distances between passengers or physical distancing, as well as ensuring passenger order to prevent passenger accumulation in areas such as at the terminal entrance, check-in counters, security checkpoints, passenger waiting rooms, aviobridge, baggage claim area, and ground transportation waiting areas.

From D-8 to D-2 Christmas, the passengers at 15 Angkasa Pura I’s Airports grew by 18% compared to the same period in 2020.

During the seven days of holding the Command Post (December 17-23, 2021), 928,315 aircraft passengers were served at 15 airports under the management of Angkasa Pura Airports. The number of passengers grew by 18 percent compared to the record in the first seven days of holding the post for Christmas and New Year 2020 of 787,782 passengers.

As for aircraft traffic, the Company has served 8,828 aircraft movements in the period from December 17 to 23, 2021, decreased by 9 percent compared to total aircraft movements in the same period in 2020 of 9,713 aircraft movements. Similarly, the Company has served 10,053,204 kg of cargo in the period from December 17 to 23, 2021, decreased by 4 percent compared to total cargo movements in the same period in 2020 of 10,513,307 kg of cargo.

“As passenger traffic started to increase, especially compared to last year’s record, we anticipated the spread of Covid-19 by tightening health protocols. This is also our response in anticipating the entry of Covid-19 B.1.1.529 variant or Omicron Variant, especially at our airports serving international flights, including I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali and Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado,” Faik Fahmi said.

“We collaborated with the Port Health Office (KKP), Immigration, and the Covid-19 Task Force as the front line of passenger inspection to anticipate passengers on international arrival routes who are exposed to the new variant of the coronavirus,” he continued.

Referring to the Circular of the Ministry of Transportation No. SE 111 of 2021 on Guidelines for Public Mobility by Air Transportation During the Christmas and  New Year 2021 holiday period during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Pandemic, the requirements for prospective air travelers are as follows:

Travelers are required to present a complete vaccine card (second dose of vaccination) and a negative rapid antigen test result whose sample is taken a maximum of 1x24 hours prior to departure;

In the event that travelers are unable to get vaccinated  for medical reasons or has not received the full dose of vaccine, their mobility is temporarily restricted;

Travelers under the age of 12 are required to present a negative RT-PCR test result whose sample is taken a maximum of 3x24 hours prior to the time of departure, and the vaccine card requirement is excluded.

However, the provision is excluded for prospective air travelers, with the following criteria:

Prospective air travellers who are unable to receive vaccine for medical reasons, and will be traveling by air for medical purposes are required to present a negative RT-PCR result whose sample is taken a maximum of 3 x 24 hours prior to the time of departure, and attach a doctor’s certificate from a Government Hospital;

Pioneer modes of transportation, including in border areas and the 3T areas (lagging, leading, and outermost).

As of December 23 or the 7th day of the monitoring post for Christmas and New Year holidays, Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar was recorded to serve the most passengers among the 15 airports under the management of PT Angkasa Pura I, reaching 196,810 passengers. Juanda Airport in Surabaya and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Bali occupied the second and third places with the highest number of passengers of 176,623 and 170,551 passengers, respectively.

Meanwhile, the airport with the highest passenger growth compared to the record in the same period in 2020 was Adisutjipto Airport in Yogyakarta serving 6,372 passengers compared to 2,297 passengers in 2020, or increased by 177%. Adi Soemarmo Solo Airport occupied the second place, the airport served 15,483 passengers in the current year’s period compared to 9,043 passengers in the previous year, or increased by 71 percent. I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali occupied the third place, the airport recorded an increase in passenger traffic by 68%, with 170,551 passengers served on 7 days of the holding of the Command Post in the current year compared to 101,687 passengers in the same period of last year.
