Angkasa Pura Airports Starts To Manage The Operations Of Sentani Airport

JAKARTA - Angkasa Pura Airports has begun managing the operations of Sentani International Airport in Jayapura on January 1, 2020 in conjunction with the appointment of Antonius Widyo Praptono as  the airport’s acting General Manager by the Directors of Angkasa Pura Airports.

The appointment of acting general manager is a follow-up to the signing of the Sentani cooperation document (KSP) of Sentani International Airport with the Ministry of Transportation on October 13, 2019, which is a sign that Angkasa Pura Airports has managed the airport located at the eastern part of Indonesia.

From October 13 to November 2019, Angkasa Pura Airports began sending its advance teams to conduct an assessment of conditions and needs; both from the system side to HR; to be adjusted when it starts to be operated by Angkasa Pura I on January 1, 2020.

"Management has appointed Antonius Widyo Praptono as acting General Manager of Sentani Airport in Jayapura because he is deemed capable and qualified to hold the position from January 1, 2020 until definitive officials are assigned. With the appointment of acting general manager of Sentani Airport as the management representative of Angkasa Pura Airports, various the airport development program can be implemented by taking into account the stages of airport development,” said Angkasa Pura Airports president director Faik Fahmi.

The future development program is related to the 2020 National Games(PON) which is going to be held in Papua.

"Sentani Airport will be the main gate in Papua for the arrival of national athletes. Therefore, to support passenger traffic during the national games, Sentani Airport will be structured and developed, both passenger terminal and vehicle parking area," Faik said.

The management of the Sentani International Airport, Faik added, is a challenge as well as an opportunity for Angkasa Pura Airports to be able to contribute more to increasing economic growth in eastern Indonesia, especially Papua, because Sentani International Airport is an entry point as well as a hub for passengers and cargo distribution in Papua.

Short Profile of Sentani International Airport

Sentani International Airport in Jayapura has served 2.1 million passengers and 62,000 aircraft movements in 2018. Sentani International Airport serves 20 destinations with Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Lion Air, Wings Air, Sriwijaya Air, Trigana, NAM Air, Susi Air, Cardig Air, and Dimonim Air with operational time from 05.00 a.m. to 08.00 p.m. local time.

For air side facilities, Sentani Airport has a dimension runway of 3,000 meters x 45 meters with an apron capacity of 13 parking stands for narrow body aircraft, eight parking stands for cargo aircraft, and 11 parking stands for propeller plane. As of now, the largest aircraft of which the airport capable to handle is the B-737 800 NG and 900 ER. While the terminal building has an area of 14,300 square meters (second storeys) and the waiting room capacity can accommodate 2,045 people.
