Angkasa Pura Airports Serves 9.7 Million Passengers in the First Quarter of 2022

Jakarta, April 13, 2022 - Angkasa Pura Airports  served 9,781,788 passengers during the first quarter (January - March) 2022 or an increase of 57 percent compared to the same period in the previous year of 6,212,095 passengers at 15 managed airports. 

Aircraft movements increased by 1.16 percent to 102,920 aircraft movements in the first quarter of 2022 compared to 101,735 aircraft movements in the first quarter of 2021. Cargo traffic also increased by 5.8 percent to 113,939.985 kg in the first quarter of 2022 compared to 107,686,309 kg in the first quarter of 2021.

In the first quarter of this year, the highest passenger and cargo traffic were in March of 3,318,363 passengers and 39,720,699 kg of cargo. Meanwhile, the highest aircraft movement traffic was in January of 34,666 aircraft movements.

AP I’s Airports with the highest passenger traffic and aircraft movements in the first quarter of 2022 were Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar with 2,169,687 passengers and 18,260 aircraft movements, followed by Juanda Airport in Surabaya with 2,016,286 passengers and 15,895 aircraft movements, and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali with 1,591,678 passengers and 13,290 aircraft movements.

Sentani Airport in Jayapura had the highest cargo traffic with 34,389,720 kg, followed by Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar with 19,902,726 kg, and Juanda Airport in Surabaya with 16,711,003 kg.

“The increase in the number of passengers and flight traffic at the managed airports in the first quarter of 2022 is a positive indication that people’s confidence to travel by air transportation mode is restoring, supported by relaxation and more comfortable travel requirements. This cannot be separated from the better handling of COVID-19 and the higher vaccination rate in the country,” AP I’s President Director, Faik Fahmi said. 

As of the end of 2022, Angkasa Pura Airports  projected an increase in passenger traffic to 38.8 million passengers, or an increase of 36 percent compared to 2021 of 28.4 million passengers. Meanwhile, aircraft traffic is projected to grow by 37 percent to 547,787 aircraft movements compared to 400,475 aircraft movements in 2021 and cargo traffic is projected to grow by 4 percent to 451,024,000 kg from 433,904,000 kg in 2021.

“We are optimistic that we can achieve the projected target considering various factors that support the achievement of the projections set, such as easing regulations on air travel requirements, the government allowing Eid homecoming and joint holiday, the holding of the G20 Summit, and reoperations of international route flights in Bali, Surabaya, Lombok, Manado, Yogyakarta and Makassar,” Faik added.
