Angkasa Pura Airports Serves 96.5 Million Passengers in 2018

JAKARTA – Angkasa Pura Airports has served 96.5 million passengers in 13 airports under its management in 2018, rose 7.6 percent from only 89.7 million last year.

 I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali still contributes the biggest number of 23.7 million passengers, soaring 12.6 percent compared to the last year figure. Meanwhile, General Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang recorded the highest growth of passengers compared to other Angkasa Pura I airports of 16.4 percent to 5.12 million passengers from 4.42 million in 2017.

 “The higher growth seen in General Ahmad Yani International Airport cannot be separated from the operation of the new terminal which is faster than the target. The acceleration of the development of airports managed by Angkasa Pura I to support the optimization of the company’s performance, improving service quality and overcome the lack of capacity are still our focus in 2019,” said Angkasa Pura president director Faik Fahmi.

After successfully operating General Ahmad Yani International Airport in 2018, Angkasa Pura Airports targeted to operate Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo and Syamsudin Noor International Airport in 2019.

 “Yogyakarta International Airport is targeted to operate by April 2019 while Syamsudin Noor International Airport in October 2019. Both airports will have better capacity with more complete and modern facilities to improve level of service and create memorable passenger experience for airport users,” Faik added.

 Therefore, he said that Angkasa Pura Airports set a new vision of the company in 2019 to “going global and network minded” and highlight Indonesian culture as the strength of operational service in Angkasa Pura I airports.

 “Vision ‘Connecting the World Beyond Airports Operator with Indonesian Experience’ is dedicated to make Angkasa Pura I airports to be ‘more serving’,” Faik said.

It is done to maintain and enhance the prestigious international achievement obtained by Angkasa Pura Airports on customer experience in 2018. The achievements are five awards given by Airports Council International (ACI) namely "Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards 2017" for three airports managed by Angkasa Pura Airports: I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali (number one best airport in the world in the category of 15-25 million passengers per year, number two best airport in Asia-Pacific in the category of >2 million passengers per year and the best airport in Asia-Pacific in the category of 15-25 million passengers per year), Juanda International Airport in Surabaya (number three best airport in the world in the category of 15-25 million passengers per year) and Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport in Balikpapan (number two best airport in the category of 5-15 million passengers per year).

Optimistic in Welcoming 2019

Welcoming 2019, Angkasa Pura Airports is optimistic it can earn better achievements in terms of operations, services and business performance.

"Angkasa Pura Airports is predicted to serve more than 101 million passengers in 2019. We target to obtain revenue of more than Rp10 trillion (US$708.6 million), an increase of 16.5 percent compared to revenues in 2018 with net income of more than Rp2 trillion or an increase of 18 percent," Faik added.

Angkasa Pura Airports is preparing an investment fund of Rp17.24 trillion to be used throughout 2019. A total of Rp7.9 trillion of which is used for the construction of four airport projects, namely the construction of Yogyakarta International Airport, Syamsudin Noor International Airport, General Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang and Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar.

"Then Rp5.8 trillion for the development of other airports and Rp3.5 trillion for operational investment, including the development of airports from the Airport Management Unit (UPBU) of the Ministry of Transportation," Faik said.

To increase the number of passengers, Angkasa Pura Airports will use some strategies such as making destination marketing, developing routes and increasing the frequency of airlines. As for airport service users, service innovations to further increase customer experience starting from airport entry to boarding passengers will also be improved. The customer experience is also done through the implementation of innovative digital technology.
