Angkasa Pura Airports Serves 4.6 Million Passengers during Christmas and New Year’s Season

JAKARTA – Angkasa Pura Airports has served 4.6 million passengers during Christmas and New Year’s holiday, starting on December 20, 2018 to January 6, 2019 for 20 days in 13 airports managed by the company.

 The number of passengers plunged 7.8 percent compared to last year’s traffic which saw 4.97 million passengers. However, the figure was obtained from December 18, 2017 to January 8, 2018 for 22 days.

 This year, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali contributed the highest traffic by serving 1.24 million passengers, rose 18.5 percent from only 1.04 million last year. The airport saw peak arrival period on December 22, 2018 where 74.611 passengers arrive and depart with 484 aircrafts. Meanwhile, the peak departure period occurred on January 3, 2019 where 72.663 passengers departed in 476 flights.

 “Bali is still a favorite destination for both local and foreign tourists to spend their holiday during Christmas and New Year. Therefore, passengers’ traffic in I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport soared. Meanwhile, the decrease of passengers’ traffic in some airports managed by Angkasa Pura I is caused by the operation of Trans Java toll road, expensive plane ticket, more choice to take other transportation and some people also concern with natural disaster occurred in several places as well as air transportation accident in 2018,” said Angkasa Pura Airports president director Faik Fahmi. 

 He added that Angkasa Pura Airports appreciates the support given by all personnel internally and also related stakeholders such as Airport Authority Office, The Indonesian Military, The National Police, AirNav Indonesia, Search and Rescue Agency, Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, Port Health Office, airlines, ground handling and other parties involved to make Christmas and New Year post to handle the peak season in 13 airports of Angkasa Pura I went well.

 “I express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for the support and cooperation of all parties who have succeeded in creating airport operations that prioritize the aspects of safety, security and comfort during the operation of the 2019 Christmas and New Year post in all airports under our management,” Faik said.
